Fred maybe said that in public but I can tell you for fact that he hated recruiting. He openly discussed this with boosters on a couple different occasions. It was pretty common knowledge inside the AD and one of the main reasons most that worked in the AD knew he wasn't going to stay at ISU long.
A friend that works in the AD told me during Fred's second year that due to recruiting and a couple other factors Fred will be at ISU 5 years max. I called BS but low and behold he was spot on.

Just one guy's opinion, but I think he only goes if Reinsdorf cleans house and fires Paxson and Forman, too. Those three are tied at the hip. As long as they're safe, he's safe.
I tend to think they will fire him after this season except I have no knowledge about his buyout. There just seems to be no support for him from fans or players.
There were rumors last year that the contract wasn't fully guaranteed. Not sure why everyone assumes it is.
Why shouldn't we assume what was publicly stated. Maybe it isn't but why should we believe internet rumors over what was stated when he was hired.
Or publicly admitting they were wrong about him. GarPax is in a tough spot because they sold him as a guy who could get the Bulls to the next level. If they fire him they're admitting they missed in a big way. The problem then is I don't know what their best option is. Trade Jimmy Butler and commit to a total rebuild? Keep Butler and build around him? He's 27 now and it's fair to wonder if right now is as good as he'll ever be. I don't know. If I were Reinsdorf I think I'd blow it all up and fire the front office and Hoiberg and try to rebuild around Butler, but I'd be willing to listen to offers.

Fred isn't living in Chi-Raq. Ames is a **** hole compared to where Fred is.
What do you get for Butler? Try to see if Boston will move one of the Brooklyn picks and some rotation pieces for him? The Nuggets and Suns have some interesting pieces but not sure either of them are trying to move up their timeline at this point. McCollum for Butler straight up? Who says no on that one?
Maybe it's the Iowa in me talking, but I'd live in Ames over Chicago in any dimension.
He lives in Burr ridge which is one of the nicest suburbs in the country and I'd guess the average home price there is easily 750k.
See, that makes sense. You could get me to pick Chicago over Ames in a scenario where I was making Fred-level salary. The money could probably help me get over the daily hassle of traffic, pressure to succeed etc. Probably not a happy existence all the time, but would still be fine.
One of the issues in my opinion is that we put our dreams of Iowa State and Fred in the equation. Fred has earned the right to follow his dreams, not my dreams. I wish it hadn't ended the way it did with all of that down time in the spring, but in reality that is my problem, not Fred's.
