Non Conference Games Through 2020

I was just looking at Cyclones.com and it looks like most of our non conference games are scheduled through 2020. I am looking forward to the Navy game in 2019, and am glad we have the 3 service academies over the next 11 years. I'd like to see more games with them.

WTF, can that be right? We play Iowa the first game of the year in 2018?

Since they only show 3 non conference games and they play 4, I'm guessing the Iowa game will be the 2nd game and the opener hasn't been determined yet.

Also why the hell does ISU have to play Oklahoma and Texas in back to back weeks all the time?

That is very, very, very good question. (which we all probably know the answer to).

Becuase the Big XII is pretty sweet like that. Kansas and ISU are the only 2 teams in the North that have them both in the same rotation and ISU will always play them both either home/home or away/away and always back to back.

@Utah and @ UCONN in 2011, wow.

All the more reason why it is important to win right now. Throw on Iowa in the non-conference and Texas, TT, and OU from the South rotation, and even a far improved team will struggle to get to a bowl game with that schedule.

At least Kansas gets to play one at home and one on the road during their rotation. ISU is the only team in the Big 12 -- North and South -- that has to play Texas and OU on the road in the same year.

Edit: Conversely, ISU is the only team in the Big 12 that is able to play them both at home in the same year. We've just never been good enough during those years to take advantage.

The good thing is after going through this is that starting in 2012 our non-conference slate is MUCH more managable for pretty much the rest of the decade.

While I agree that it is a crap deal for ISU and KU I always have to remind myself that when the B12 was formed OU was down and aTm was up. The resurgence of OU and fall of aTm is what makes this the huge kick in the nuts.

What i wonder is why its the same all the time. im fine with a 4 year rotation, but each 4 years, cant it be shaken up a bit?

Supposedly the reason why is that when the Big XII was forming, Nebraska raised a stink and said they would not play Oklahoma & Texas in the same year in football. Granted, there's no evidence of this and at the time, neither OU or Texas were as powerful as they are now. OU was at the end of the John Blake era, who got the job basically because he played for and was an assistant under Barry Switzer. His teams, by OU standards under performed. Texas was still coached by John Mackovic, who was in the same boat. If I recall right, the last Southwest Conference champions was a tie between Texas A&M and Rice.

I think you were right. There were some 7-5, 8-4 type years for both of those programs before Mack Brown and Bob Stoops came in.

Booo I don't see any starting Thursday games, unless those haven't been added in on the later years. I love the first Thursday night game! It gives students something to look forward to without having to wait for the weekend!
