No more band, please!

been a lurker here for awhile....

Band is great....OP is nuts, in my opinion.

They need to shitcan the DJ that plays so damn much 90s techno crap music.....where the hell is the rule that says you have to play Sandstorm, Get Ready For This, and all this ******* **** all damn game.....come on, the people of Iowa are kind of sheltered, but ******.....what about some damn modern music, or rock and roll for gods sake?!?!?!?!?

Seriously.
 
I worked one of the scoreboard camera's when I was a student (2004-2007) and the band always played after promos (during the 16-minute, 12-minute and 8-minute timeouts) and then they had the entire 4-minute timeout for the fight song. The reason for so much band - because they are more fired up than the fans. The goal for the in-home broadcast is to fire up the fans that are there - you can only show the students jumping to "Zombie Nation" so many times in one game... The fight song is universal to all Cyclone fans - not just the students.

The music is designed to get the crowd involved and pumped...and it does...

A lot of those get the crowd going better than anything else. It has a strong beat that gives the crowd something to clap to. They've tried playing other things at times and they failed miserably for these reasons.

You want to buy a CD of pep band music and I am the moron?? My guess is you played in the band and are some high ranking member of your local dungeons and dragons club.
 
A lot of when the band plays the fight song is with moments of "school pride". Like the volleyball team today. Or our new president being introduced. Or thanking our old president. Or when showing highlights of a win. Or the mentioning of clinching the cy hawk series by the announcer. It fits in I suppose.

Also, I enjoy the band being there, and don't mind them playing the fight song as much as they do.

People are ripping on you b/c you suggested we get rid of the band not because you think the fight song is played too much. Or are you backtracking?
 
The only thing that bothers me about the band - is when you meet someone thats in the band and all they can talk about is how awesome band is or how crazy band parties are.

I love me some rock n roll... But the students get wayyyy more pumped to techno/pump up music than lots of the old music.
 
the band is tradition.....and they are damn good.....but have their limitations, obviously.

the dj at the games, both basketball and football....has been sucking.

How the hell is the same techno song pumping up the crowd? If that works, you need a new crowd....come on, give the crowd some more credit than this. ******....its awful, and I only watch on tv on the west coast.......embarassing.

Apparently they need to get up to date......hell, I graduated in 96...and the music they play is what I played at frat and dorm parties.....and it sucked then!!

Most are ripping me because they are probably current or former members of the band. I am okay with it.

Not backtracking. Still don't think they add much to games anymore. Think the "varsity" marching band thing at football games is overplayed too.

Wait. You watch from the west coast and some how know what songs have been played at the games by the DJ's. I'm calling troll right here. (Maybe even our little FailHawk from earlier tonight)

So let me get this straight...There is something wrong with me if I like to listen to songs that get me and the rest of the students excited? THAT is wrong...
