Nick Babb

Odds are if ISU doesn't offer him/he doesn't sign here, he still ends up in Big 12 territory.
I also feel he ends up with at least one high major offer.
IMO he would be a great fit for the 3rd guard position we have had success with. If he continues to grow and/or develop his perimeter game, watch out. He is already known for doing the little things, which tends to be under valued in recruiting, but would payoff for the program that signs him.

he's put on some muscle since I've seen him last. Very smooth player. Could have some great potential; especially if he gets up to around 6'7. Him and Chris both have great frames.

Agreed, his athleticism won't blow you away but he could be a solid player, especially if he gets to 6'5"+

He probably isn't someone who would see much playing time as a freshman but would be solid by the time he left.

Would rather get Rashad Vaughn.

Sorry to state the obvious, but I'm just posting one of the reasons why Nick Babb may not end up in Ames.

There is almost a year and a half before the class of 2014 would hit the court. That is a lot of prime development time for a 16 or 17 year-old. A solidly built, athletic 6'5" guard that defends and shoots well from deep sees early PT IMO. Plus his handle and driving skills are not bad and seem to be improving.

I will say this, it would REALLY suck to have Nick Babb at another Big 12 school.

I almost feel sorry for Nick if he ends up at ISU, cause so many expect Chris 2.0.

Kind of, but what we loved about Chris was his effort. It wasn't like he was some sort of all-conference player.

How many recruits go places where expectations are not high? You know your program is in trouble then, like how I felt near the end of the McD days.

Agreed, but with the way ISU has been recruiting, I wouldn't even expect the 2nd coming of Chris to play until his junior year. People would inevitably compare 4th and 5th year Chris to 1st and 2nd year Nick.

I'd rather get both to go along with a post or two. I am guessing we end up bringing in a class of 5 for 2014.

Umm....what?
I assume you are expecting a couple transfers? Our team will be so young, but after next season, I think a few guards will know where they stand in the lineup so it's possible. However, 3 is the limit at this point.

We have Custer and 2 ships left to give out. IMO there is a decent chance two players currently scheduled to be here in 2014-15 leave. If you count Nader, you would only need 1 transfer for 5 new guys in 2014.

The 5-man class makes sense to me, but after seeing this 2013 recruiting class where the staff seemed to lose a lot of interest in HS players that weren't quite as talented as Washington, Thomas, and Morris, I'm not sure this staff is going to be going after too many HS players that require some development e.g. Babb.

I don't think this staff is too interested in spending 2+ years developing role players and I am fine with that. Different strokes for different folks. McDermott can develop all the players he wants over at Creighton.

When I visited Babb's BBQ in Dallas a month ago, his dad said that the Iowa State Alumni group uses his place for gamewatches. They even have an ISU sign on their patio wall (in the midst of a bunch of Texas schools). You have to think that we will give him a hard look if he is anything like Chris. Sentimentally, I would love to see it. Great family. And awesome BBQ (loved the sausage).
