Our group went there during the NCAA tourney this year and there were a ton of fruit flies in the bar. Really went downhill.

My favorite mem:
At the keg stand years ago. I think it was his second year at ISU. Some jerkoff tells Rhoads the only reason we went to a bowl game was because of Chizik's players.
Wally comes unglued and was ready to throw down. We yanked him over by our table and told him to calm down, hows it going, you're doing a great job. One of our guy's said, hey Wally let me buy you a beer, what's your flavor? Wally sternly looked at him and goes, cranberry vodka, yeah I drink cranberry, what, does that make me a ***** (think name for cat)? We're all like, whoa, calm down buddy, we're on your side.
He apologized and said Chizik is an ***. He stayed an shot the **** with us for quite a while that night.
Cool old dude. Type of guy I'd want on my side.

My wife and I went there in May. It was a phenomenal experience. They had a sommelier that floats around and helps you with their wine list. That was a great touch.
Ya that sounds great except I'm sure the wine was like $15 a glass minimum.

I really want to try Oak Park.
We were there a few weeks ago with some folks and it was very good, thought I think I still prefer Harbinger as my favorite dining experience in the metro. I had the carrot wellington which the other diners raved about, and I thought it was good, but not great. Nothing was bad, and the ambiance is great.

The wife and I recently discovered Simon's in Des Moines. We had the onion rings for an appetizer, I had the chicken Parm, and I believe my wife had a fillet. we both walked away very satisfied(I only ate half of my entre) and both felt it was hands down one of the best Italian places we have been. It's not a dive or a dump, but it isn't 801 chop. but the food is outstanding!

Is that beef Wellington or is the beef swapped for carrots? I'm a pretty good cook myself so I'm tough to impress. I always find myself thinking I could do it just as well for half the price. I wish I could just enjoy it lol.

yeah they got a new owner at the beginning of the year who totally misunderstood the clientele. We were trivia regulars for a while and completely stopped this summer after prices were jacked up and beers were limited to lawnmower lagers. It's a shame, we must have been going there for 8 years for trivia.

The latter, they swap the beef for carrots, it's also got goat cheese on the inside. The other women in the group raved about it and the sauce it came with, so I got it as my husband and I were both curious. To be clear, it wasn't bad, I just didn't really understand why the other folks loved it so much, and I say this as someone who likes goat cheese and the occasional vegetarian entree. I brought the leftovers home, but didn't fight my husband when he asked to eat them.
