I would be extremely happy for Niang if he gets drafted at all. I still think he doesn't make any roster, but at least he'd get a chance to walk across that stage.
Then again, Cameron Bairstow is still on the Bulls roster. So I suppose anything can happen.
Just remember, people.. none of us who don't believe he'll make it in the NBA want him to not make it. We all want him to. It's just that making and staying in the NBA is IMMENSELY difficult. It's like the best actor at every college in the U.S. heading to New York to be a lead actor on Broadway. Lots of people, very few roles, and if you don't make it, it doesn't mean you aren't still in the upper echelon of what you do. That's just reality.

You sell him too short. He has such an array of shots and high scoring percentage, someone will need him. He may be Austin D League at first, but he is a gamer. In the pros, his passing ability will be of better use.
He does, but the help defense in the NBA is so much quicker and longer than in college. Those pump fake, step through moves don't work as well when there's a super quick rim protector coming over to challenge the shot too.
I remember a player coming out of college. They said he was to slow and couldn't jump. His team was not in power 5 conference. So he hadn't played against big time competition. One guy thought he was pretty special. He drafted him a year before he got out of school. That guy was named Red...and the player was Larry Bird.
I think George has a place at the next level. He just has to get with right team and the right coach. He is just one of those guys that has so many intangibles. His biggest asset is he is a team player. Guys will want to play with him. So I think he has a place in the NBA.

I am going to split some hairs on this one. He is a great athlete...just not an explosive one.
I believe Georges has a legitimate place in the NBA. Do I think he'll be a starter? Probably not...but he will contribute. He's got great hands, tons of moves and a soft touch. I'm not directly comparing him to Tim Duncan but if you look at their style of play, they are similar in nature.
Not all great NBA players have been high-flying, dunking, defensive specialists. The league is full of role players who help make others better and are clutch when they need to be.

I absolutely believe that Niang has a chance to be a great niche player on an NBA roster and be able to provide real rotational minutes. Quite a few teams in the league look for players that can provide supplemental scoring while their starters rest and keep the opponent at bay. High end, I see Niang being a 6-7 guy on a roster scoring/assisting creatively to make up for the lack of athleticism. Low end, goes undrafted, hangs out in the D-League for a bit or bounces around Europe.

Which is exactly when he passes to the player the help defender was guarding. His passing can keep defenders honest. He doesn't have trouble scoring 20 against the athleticism of Kansas, so I don't see why he can't help an NBA team in some capacity.
Georges' defense will improve if he makes the NBA because he won't have to worry as much about avoiding fouls.
Please do not ever mention Georges Niang and Larry Bird in the same sentence again. Bird was 6'9", averages 30 ppg, 13rpg and 4.5 apg in 3 years of college and single handedly led his team to the ncaa title game.
I didn't mean that George was as good as Larry. He just had some of the same intangibles that Larry had. I am a life long Celtic fan. I go back to there glory years and the not so glory years. The Lakers and Celtics rivalry with Chamberlin and Russell. I saw John Havlicek's last game in Chicago. I think they lost 60 games that year. It was a steep fall from there.

I think his game will make him a star in Europe and they will pay him well there. I don't think he has enough athleticism to make it in the NBA. Nothing wrong with that path if he wants to make basketball a career and say he plays 10 years in Europe then gets into coaching he now has international experience on his resume too
I respectfully disagree with your comments on the NBA but I suppose it doesn't matter. Great player, nonetheless.
Really weird to think a guy as great in college playing at the highest level in the college game and a guy that is that driven and ballsy does not have a place at the next level.
