Wow - your right. That one game changes his entire body of work plus his frame and potential. He should have ended up and Morningside.

His entire body of work wasn't even that good. Got dominated by decent tackles. He was recruited based on potential

Yes, places like Stanford, Wisconsin and Notre Dame have to take chances on kids. That must be it. I would say a lot of guys are recruited on potential. In fact, all of them get recruited on potential. If they don't project to next level (potential), they don't get offered, no matter how good they are in high school.

I was at the state championship game as well and will vouch for him not being a big factor, but that game was over before it started. Boyle and the Dowling offense were phenomenal. I get the whole down-playing guys we don't get. But this guy had huge options from programs that consistently recruit and rank in the top 20 teams in college football.

FWIW... sounds like Iowa did make an offer to Ross Reynolds and he accepted. Grey shirt opportunity that will likely grow into a full scholarship: http://iowa.scout.com/2/1369515.html
.

Meeker certainly has great size. I don't know anything about intangibles though. He could end up being a great player. Must have been something that kept them from extending an offer.
I heard that he may not have the motor or aggressive/mean streak that would have pushed him into gettting an iowa offer

Why so many questions about this kid committing to ISU? People should be happy that the possible #1 high school kid in Iowa is going to ISU! With his height and size McKnight isn't going to need to pack it on him. He will add weight naturally as he continues to add muscle mass. Its just one less thing the coaching staff has to do to get this kid field ready. Yes, the light still has to go on and skills need to be built up or refined, but adding bulk to him from 240 to 300 isn't an issue and won't take 2-3 years just to do that alone. Some say he has an attitude problem. You really think that the other players or coaches are going to let me get away with that? Heck no. His grades might be an issue? Well ISU has a lot of academic support to help him out! This is a great get for ISU and he isn't the typical project prospect that they usually get. This is a kid that could see the field a year or two after his redshirt year. It won't take 4 years to get him field ready. Be happy people! Iowa didn't offer guys that have helped ISU have success or win games before. Knott is the prime example of that he was just a great as any of the Iowa linebackers over the past decade!

Completely agree. This guy may have a decent college career but like I said earlier, in HS he wasn't even the best on his team.

I am all for recruiting on potential, but its also fair for people to ask the question as to why a kid doesn't stand out aside from being "big."

Now I assume most coaches are arrogant enough to think they can flip that switch and at the end of the day you can't coach a kid to be 6'7''.

I am sure its the same reasons ISU wanted the kid from Waukee... hes 6'6 and if you can fill out that frame, keep him from carrying around a stop sign in a riot, and develop him as a football player then you absolutely have something.
