*New Uniform Thread*

I think don't scrap just redesign them will Cardinal Crome finish, Cardinal matte finish. But agree gold helmets like these need to come back!

I think this is perfect.

"But it features a secondary logo." Yes, but a precedent of secondary logos has been clearly established, i.e. Oklahoma State's use of their 'Pistol Pete' logo.

"But the logo comes from a dark period of ISU football." Who on earth cares? Stop with the histrionics.

The logo is simple but sleek and retro. It features our underutilized nickname clearly and isn't diluted with a bird. If the university had kept with this logo it would have become our Tigerhawk.

I like the simple top but the Jack Trice version is good too. I support moving toward an "old gold." As a side note, if you remove the logo, make the helmet solid chrome gold, and get rid of the stripes on the pants it is very similar to Notre Dame's uniforms; just replacing the blue with cardinal. And coincidentally, that creates a replica of ISU's uniforms from the early 1960's.

I think this is a winner too, but it would be nice to get some Trice stripes someplace. Maybe on the shoulders as I think they actually go pretty good with the Cyclone on the helmet, which is kind of in stripes. Worth a look anyway. It's great kicking around this stuff knowing there's a good chance it will happen.

I still like the the idea of a walking Cy throwback. Or football Cy, probably hard to incorporate, but similar to the New England Patriots throwback. Cy in the three point stance!

The 'swirl' in this pic perfectly shows what our two-tone yellow/gold should be (ignore the grey).
Take a look here at our current two-tone yellow color scheme (and our two-tone cardinal): http://www.cyclones.com/pdf3/91103.pdf

One of the problems, IMO, w/ our current football uniform, is that the yellow is too yellow and there is no contrast. The word "mustard" comes up a lot. (The lighter shade of yellow in our current two-tone color scheme, is only used in the 'I-State' logo, or other logos, not uniform, for contrast.)

Why? We are the Iowa State CYCLONES. Why not put a cyclone on a helmet.

The Iowa State Cyclones with a bird mascot. Neither the bird or a cyclone are in our teams logo and that's what bothers me. The retro tornado would be cool, but it would need updating imo.

They were great conceptually, but the final product was just terrible. Plus it didn't help that we found out after the fact that they were not what Jack Trice wore - which was the entire point.
At least the colors were correct, our current colors are atrocious! Personally as a designer the Trice throwbacks are our best effort in years since the Chiz throwbacks...CPR was a generic garbage machine for taste in all things fashion related.

It took us long enough just to get the not so new anymore Nike collars..

I still say these are the best uniforms we've ever worn. Hell for branding sake we could wear them home and away. Also with the influx of alternate uniforms these days, I wonder if finding a cool throwback will be the new "hip" thing and we could be on top of it.

I love those throw backs and the memories of that game. Beating Iowa by only kicking field goals, what a time to be alive.

And I think that was the "retro/classic look" that inspired the current design. It's a well-designed package. They could've refined the I-State logo to work well on that gold helmet — better contrast of logo to helmet compared to red-on-red, modernized the jersey numerals we have now (I still think that was a nice design choice) and let-fly.

It'd be a connection with a rare successful period (nostalgia!), the gold isn't too yellow, the cardinal isn't too bright-red or maroon.

Plenty of good suggestions for basics/alts in this thread (with exception of black-inclusion — please, no), but we could have done a LOT worse than mimicking these.

I'll say that MC really upgraded our alternate uniforms over the last 2-3 years or so....ever since the athletic dept. went with Under Armour.

Didn't read through the entire thread, but have you guys ever gone with all white? Noticed you wore red helmets at our place...thought that combo would look really nice with the white helmets...like we wore at Arkansas

Haha. I swear you can see right into the soul of Cyclone fans. The white helmets have been our white whale for a long time.
