Saw a tweet from some coach or guru from Greece or maybe an international scout. Said he was the best 'project' in Greece. Not implying anything negative nor want to sound impatient, but the quote just made me curious as to how to take that. Should we be super-excited because he was labeled the 'best' project, because we all realistically know he has to gain strength and is very young yet skilled and 7'1"? Or should we keep expectations low cuz the word 'project' was even used? Perhaps its a little of both.

Its been common knowledge ledge since he signed that he is a project. Matt A has pretty much said that even.

Yes, I realize that. Just think there is a broad usage or varying degrees of that term.

I wouldn't expect to much out of Giorgos early. I'm afraid people are going to be disappointed if he isn't tearing it up early. I'm sure that by labeling him the "best project" in Greece it means he has great potential but he isn't there yet. He will have some adjusting because I'm sure the style of American basketball is much different than what he is use to.

What the hell is a "project". To me it's someone who provides no help to the team and will likely redshirt. SDW is a project.

My expectation for Giorgos is 10 min or so per game and a decent role player. I guess if thats the definition for a project then so be it. I see it as reasonable expectation for a D1 freshman.

I look at GT as anything positive is gravy. He could turn into an all-conf player or he could be a 7 ft distraction. It is a great 12th or 13th scholarship to use. I see it as a low risk, high reward situation.

Top 150 talent is a project? http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Sherron-Dorsey-Walker-112114

A project is a little recruited nobody that is given a chance because of potential.

No, a project is someone who needs work to contribute. I'm talking about results, not a ranking. Two years and little contribution to the team? He's either a project or a bust, take your pick.
Agree to disagree I guess.. SDW would have contributed last year. Then DeAndre Kane happened. Now its BDJ. Just because he isn't putting up numbers doesnt mean he is a project. SDW can obviously score the ball.

I've seen a few toss out this 10 minutes a game projection, and I think that's pretty damn high. If he sees 10 a game, with the roster & front court this year, then my guess is he's better than were expecting.

Not saying he can't be, but Percy & Edozie last year and Booker his senior year didn't avg. 10 a game. Even Matt at the end of last year was down to 10 or less.

People don't realize how long 10 mpg is in the offseason.

If it was obvious I doubt they recruit BDJ or Kane. He is not ready to contribute at the level we need yet. Like the kid, but I doubt he plays much again this year.

Even if he could score, there is no way you pass on the multidimensional game of Kane. I'm not sure how you think otherwise. He didn't say SDW was better he said he could score. You may be right and he isn't ready, but the recruitment of Kane and BDJ isn't proof of it.

What proof is there that he can score? The ccl? In that case bubu was one of our best players.

Or next year either. Hallice Cooke is obviously going to be the favorite over SDW unless he improves drastically going into the 15-16 season. Naz is also the first guard off the bench, and he will NEVER lose that role to SDW. SDW may play some his senior year, but I wouldn't honestly count him in too much these next two years. These cupcake squads we play out of conference will be a decent test to see if he can actually score.

I know exactly what averaging 10 minutes per game means, and its not that much. He may not meet that, and if he doesn't then fine. I'm not one to call someone a bust if they don't meet my expectations. The pump the brakes crowd should just chill out. Its not outrageous or unrealistic to think he could play 10 minutes a game..

It was always fun to watch Julo dribble too. I swear he bounced the ball about 5 feet in the air. Such a fun player to watch. I still see him around DSM or at ISU basketball games. Brings a smile to my face every time.

Link to a Johnny Orr and Murphy segment breaking down Julo.

I always remember whenever Julo bringing the ball up and doing the behind the back dribble. I guess it was just seeing somebody his size with such great ball skills that amazed me. I wonder how he is doing these days. Last time I ran into him he looked a little rough. I know he was lucky to survive the car accident, but just curious if anybody has any insight on how he is doing.
