I did not understand the reference to Michilick. The issue I have is that the kid from the ukraine has a last name that sounds very similar to Michilicks name. The kid from greece has a very different name. So I did not understand if he was just using Julo as an example of a foreign kid (greece), or if he was trying to use it because it sounds very similar to the kid in the ukraine.

It was just Fred alluding to GT in a manner that could fly under the recruitment rules. Essentially, he was announcing a commitment before the signing.

I'm not going to wade too much into the whole Julius comparison argument, because frankly IDK and it's not worth arguing about. However, on the subject of Van Coleman, I would remind you he was insisting Peter Jok was one of the top recruits in the nation even into the end of his senior year...long after the hype had worn off from every other recruing service.

Well aware, I took it with a grain of salt. I was more commenting on that he too noted the similarity in his style. Your right doesn't matter. I was more commenting because of the dismissive way dingus put that it was obviously not a comparison of style. I don't care, but do think they have some similarities but also many differences. The awkward slow release was the big thing that reminded me of him.

Still would like to know if this kid plans to sign by Wednesday. If what twopump says is true about that being the last loi cuttoff would make us sleep better at least.

Colemans listing of Jok as a top rated recruit was from an earlier non-updated list. He even said that. Coleman does some dumb stuff but he's not that dumb. He took a lot of crap but it was because people were too lazy to look into it. I saw the list and I made fun of the list but I looked into it.

No, I heard him say in a radio interview he still felt Jok would be one of the top recruits in the country if he hadn't had injuries in high school, and thought Iowa got a real gem. Time will tell how good of a player he is, but his lack of playing time this year shows he wasn't anywhere close to a top player with or without injuries.

Coupled with the immense depth...

I thought Jok looked pretty good offensively at the tail end of the season when he got a chance. He may never be an elite defender, but I think he'll be a pretty potent offensive weapon for Iowa.

He did really well in the first half of the play in game with Tennessee but for some reason Fran went away from him in the 2nd half.

Fran might be the biggest hindrance to his development.

Fair enough, we were arguing two different things. Coleman will pimp Iowa recruits, and even ISU recruits to the local media. I can't stand it...be honest.

Fran's game management, particularly personnel, is mind-boggling.

That's probably the first and last time we'll ever have a Julo comparison. That dude was one of a kind, with both the good and the bad. (more good than bad obviously)

Julo was and probably always will be my favorite all-time ISU basketball player. The comparisons are sorta there. This guy is a European, a lefty and has some decent size and some touch around the basket. But like you said, Julo was one of a kind. If this guy comes in, develops male-pattern baldness by 20 years old and speaks broken English, then I'll agree he's a Julo clone. Until then the jury is out.

Probably been said, but I laugh at the slow release thing. How many 7 footers have or need a quick release on their outside shot? We aren't talking about a 6 foot guard.

I can't imagine how CF got 43 pages from a recruit that literally nobody knows about. Can I get a cliff notes of what's been discussed...or is better to just say 'don't worry about it, not missing much'?

If you decide to read up on it, skip the first 400 posts.

Go to the start and watch the second video about him.

It was always fun to watch Julo dribble too. I swear he bounced the ball about 5 feet in the air. Such a fun player to watch. I still see him around DSM or at ISU basketball games. Brings a smile to my face every time.

Link to a Johnny Orr and Murphy segment breaking down Julo.

People following this thread should take the time to watch this video. Pretty cool.

Not to mention he's like 5 feet wide open on each 3 point shot he takes. He didn't need a fast release on those shots.
