New Arrowhead?

JFC so it would cost people 100$ a year(maybe) to bring in several million dollars in revenue and keep the teams? That sounds like a hell of deal to me.
This is definitely one way to think about it, I mean sure the owners are billionaires but if you spread the cost across a few hundred thousand poors it does make it sound more palatable.

Well according to the governor there is no new taxes.

  • No New Taxes: Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and other officials have stressed that the plan will not create any new taxes for Kansas residents.
Where you getting your #?
3/8 was what was on the ballot that Jackson County voters turned down.

No that's fair, it's a cheaper deal for sure. But then going to Kansas is still going to have costs to Jackson County tax payers.
I dont know, if you are traveling from out of town do you want to stay in the suburbs and eat chain food or stay downtown where the action is at?

It's more of the sales tax, property tax and earnings tax that the stadiums directly generated. The sales tax from visitors won't change, IMO.

Hunt family has a net worth of $25,000,000,000 but hey lets make the retired person that is on a fixed income that doesnt even watch football pay for the stadium.
Why would the team build a new stadium for the city all on their dollar? I'm as cynical as anyone about billionaires but I do understand the city owns the stadium and it isn't just there for the Chiefs. You do realize the Chiefs don't even own Arrowhead right? The city does. The Chiefs just lease it. I actually like the idea of the taxpayers owning the stadium as opposed to the owners. Its the same anywhere. The Iowa Wild dont own Wells Fargo Arena either.
And Kansas City doesn't own the Chiefs the Hunts do. If you want them to stay in town the taxpayer needs to incentivize them to stay there. Its like any other business. As a citizen you can either help pay or they'll go so place that will.

They would be building it for their team and would be able to rent it out as seen fit.
But stadiums are the shiny toys that Billionaires get built for them so they don't move their team out of town.

Right or wrong it seems to be the way that it is. We will just agree to disagree on this subject

That depends on who you are. If you're a couple guys in your 20s, probably downtown but then again you likely know somebody who lives in town and just stay with them. Im just guessing but I'd say the most likely candidates to stay in hotels for Chiefs games are families with children and they probably have no interest in staying downtown. Most of the people who come and stay in hotels probably don't even know P and L exists. Only young drinkers are staying downtown. There really isn't much in downtown KC other than that.

I like the 50/50 idea myself. Owner pays half and the citizens pay the rest.

Right, I understand that my wife helped Jeff Bezo buy a $500mil yacht but at least I got packages on my doorstep.

They bring in around 610-653millon locally annually with another 570 million in economic activity for the state and county. So about let's sat 1.25 billion per year. That's pretty good for a metro of 2.4 million.
I guess the good news for Missouri is they're only moving 20 minutes away so a lot of that will continue.

I'm still a little in awe that we haven't turned the corner yet to where nearly everyone is against billionaires using tax dollars rather than their own dollars for their stuff, but billionaires do be charming.

You've see me in the cave dude. I'm as anti-billionaire as anyone. I don't view all of these stadiums as gifts to billionaires though. They aren't just used for their teams. I do like the idea of a 50/50 funding proposition . I like the idea of the citizens owning the stadium too. And it's not like the Hunts have been greedy. Other than one much needed renovation they really haven't asked for much else. These are city infrastructure projects in my book. In a place like KC the Chiefs are huge. I don't care what your personal feeling on them are. This isn't the end of the world but this will end up being a big loss for KCMO. KCMO is the heart of that metro. Even though the team is still gonna be in greater KC I think it will hurt the entire metro in the long run it having them in KCMO. Its not gonna hurt the team but I don't think its a win for the entire metro long term.
