Nebraska sux

You have to watch yourself when you read about these things. The ease with which a journalist, blogger or whoever can turn next to nothing into a story that gets shared, picked up, or repeated by another journalist of blogger is mind boggling. For example take the title of this thread....

Campbell to Nebraska intensifies

I read the article and there is nothing in the story that leaves you believe anything is "intensifying." It's one blogger repeating what another one said. Nothing more.

All it takes is to fill your headline with hyperbolistic folderol and you get attention. And then my favorite line in all of these stories..."sources say"...
One reporter mentions Campbell as a potential candidate. A blogger sees that and writes and article putting Campbell at the top of Nebraska's list. Another reporter sees that blog as writes an article headlined "Campbell to Nebraska Intensifies". Another reporter sees that and tweets "Cambpell rumored to be willing to meet with Nebraska" Then Joe Schmo message board poster starts a thread citing "a lot of smoke regarding Campbell to Nebraska" and the rumors continue from there.

It's a bad game of telephone where bloggers/reporters take some liberties with "facts vs opinion" and suddenly there's "smoke" because enough people are talking about it despite nothing actually going on.

Hot take, that I know people will get furious about because they want him fired here, but Tom Manning will be a head coach in college football before Campbell is a head coach at a school that’s not iowa State.
I agree with this. It won't be at a P5 school but one of the approximately a million football schools in Ohio should offer him a job at some time.

In case any of you are only as intelligent as me:

Frost won a national championship while playing football at Nebraska. However, he's arguably just as famous at Nebraska for having hidden in a closet while Lawrence Phillips dragged a girl down the stairs by her hair. He's also been caught renting an apartment above a bar so that he and assistant coaches could have rendezvous with co-eds and dragged the football program down to depths it hasn't seen in at least 60 years.

Maybe Frost should have just stayed at Stanford and put up with the death threats from Husker fandom to maintain some semblance of dignity.

All of this is message bord speculation. All of it... but here's what I don't understand:

Let's say Campbell really does want OSU, MI, ND, or Penn State. We don't *know* that, but let's pretend.

Will going to Lincoln help him get closer to that goal? OR will staying at Iowa State until one of those jobs open up provide just as likely a path forward?

One option might provide more money but uproot his wife and four school-age children. Does the money outweight that? No one knows.

But what we do know is Matt Campbell coaching at Nebraska does not raise his profile one bit for the previously-mentioned schools. So does he want to make another stop without his D-coordinator and potentially without his O-coordinatore to still dream of somewhere else?

Campbell going to Nebraska without Heacock (who is 61 and might not want to move again, he might just finish things out at Iowa State for a few years and/or retire) or Manning/Scheelhaase (overwhelmingly likely one of them is promoted into the head job in Ames) sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Not a situation where he could make himself look any more attractive for the Buckeyes, Irish, or KC if he wanted to go that route. Nothing to gain except for some money, and the impact on the margin for Campbell at this point is pretty minimal, and everything to lose in completely derailing his career.

I wish CMC would come out and just kill this one. Not to make us feel better but to embarrass Nebraska. He won't do that but boy the fun.

I've gotten the impression that he has the personality that would fit in well over there.
And not in a good way. That's Nebby's problem, the don't need that kind of a guy. That's why Pellini worked out so well there, he was a no bull sh!t kind of guy but unfortunately Nebby boosters are too stupid to figure out why that's a good thing.

If I wanted him fired, I'd be ok with him getting a college head coaching job.
