All of this is message bord speculation. All of it... but here's what I don't understand:
Let's say Campbell really does want OSU, MI, ND, or Penn State. We don't *know* that, but let's pretend.
Will going to Lincoln help him get closer to that goal? OR will staying at Iowa State until one of those jobs open up provide just as likely a path forward?
One option might provide more money but uproot his wife and four school-age children. Does the money outweight that? No one knows.
But what we do know is Matt Campbell coaching at Nebraska does not raise his profile one bit for the previously-mentioned schools. So does he want to make another stop without his D-coordinator and potentially without his O-coordinatore to still dream of somewhere else?

32-18 in 4 years and never had a losing conference record isn’t bad. It isn’t fantastic but it is much better than what Frost did in Lincoln.
That is utter failure at school that has all of the advantages Texas has. Herman would be Frost 2.0 at Nebby.

Being honest and objective, the Nebraska job is a slight step up from Iowa State, at least in theory. Better history, better facilities, more money to work with (can pay and retain assistants easier), more NIL money (supposedly), and greater conference stability.
With that said, the path to dominance in the Big 10 West will likely be eliminated, if the speculation holds true. Campbell already has this program heading in the right direction and it can be EXTREMELY difficult and risky to come in resurrect a dumpster fire. I think kids largely want to play with/for Campbell and Nebraska isn't a "hot enough" location to move the needle in recruiting. Nebraska's current image, especially in the age of social media, is abysmal and is likely lower than our own. Something that doesn't get talked about enough is the AD situations between the schools. Alberts is a moronic douche who I don't see Campbell respecting or having a good working relationship with. Meanwhile Pollard is a highly respected and has great working relationships with his coaches. Quite frankly I think Nebraska should have canned Alberts, brought in a new AD, and let that AD evaluate the situation before firing Frost. Success starts at the top and Alberts isn't the right man for the job or the right man to make the hire Nebraska football needs to be successful.
If Campbell values money and places high value on Nebraksa's additional resources he might be interested in the job. But if he truly loves where he's at and, more importantly, values his long-term career ambitions Nebraska is a highly risky move that's not worth taking. Given the totality of all the factors, it's a marginal "upward" step, but one where the risks far outweigh the potential rewards. If they had a better AD I think the odds of consideration would greatly increase, but the Nebraska/Alberts combo is a very poor fit for Campbell's persona. He's already shown he's willing to turn down more money and prestige for the right fit. I don't see that changing here.

No. I don't think it gets him closer to those ambitions. More importantly, the Nebraska/Alberts fit would be a very poor match for him, especially when Alberts is a big part of the problem(s) in Lincoln. He should have been canned before Frost.
You have to watch yourself when you read about these things. The ease with which a journalist, blogger or whoever can turn next to nothing into a story that gets shared, picked up, or repeated by another journalist of blogger is mind boggling. For example take the title of this thread....

Campbell's kids are financially secure for life. If he stays at ISU he will never be fired, and his grandkids would be completely financially secure.
Trev Alberts couldn't even beat 5-second-forty-time Marv Seiler to the corner. How can they expect him to turn around a football program?
