That has definitely changed. I lived in CR from 99-01 and there were very few clones back then. It made things better that Iowa was awful at football though.
Lots of good ISU student-athletes came out of C.R. and Davenport.

I'd love to know if the rumors were true that he would have left for USC last year had he been offered (who could blame him).

I think there is a 0.00001% chance he would leave for Nebraska. Why? Admin/boosters are a trainwreck and he can win as much here as he can at Nebraska.
He turned down USC.

So CMC went through the entire lengthy interview process at several “who’s who” programs, got offered those jobs, turned them down only to do it all over again at another “who’s who” program then another and so on. But no one in the national media got a whiff of it? LOL.
Uh no. Who said anything about a lengthy interview process. Matt Campbell doesn’t have to do lengthy interviews. That’s just stupid on the face if it.

Tom Osborne decided early on, he could not compete with the big dogs by playing the same game they did. That is how he ended up with that triple option offense. It was different. They also took every player they could get, grades were irrelevant, rap sheet irrelevant. They had 150 players on their teams. He did things differently and it paid off.

I'm not sure anyone can really do the same thing today, is my point. Fred kind of did it with basketball, took in a bunch of misfits who were really good players and got them to sit a year. He essentially invented turning your program around with transfers. Now, everyone does it, so it couldn't be sustained.

In football, I think CMC switched things up with Heacock and his defensive schemes and that's what really helped to make us competitive in the Big 12. But with scholarship limits, NIL, transfer portal, political correctness (by that I mean the things Osborne got away with are not acceptable today, well unless you are a private school like Baylor), I just don't know that the opportunity is there to build a dynasty.

But, I'm fine with having the teams we have. In football, we beat top 10 teams and go to bowl games. In basketball, the last ten years, we also beat top 10 teams and win conference tournaments and make the Sweet Sixteen. Women's basketball, we beat Baylor probably more than anyone. We are doing great.
Hypodermic needles were, however, quite relevant.

I really believe Nebby needs a few random wins this year. They need just enough to give them hope only to **** all over themselves the following week. This will maximize the schadenfreude for the rest of us.

Central Iowa
Grew up in NW fairly close to Sioux City.... Can confirm the sea of a$$ holes....

Also grew up in Western Iowa in the 90's. It was either ISU or Nebby. I can remember one kid that was a Hawkeye fan. But never saw bumper stickers or flags on houses.

Now, it's a little Nebby, lot of Squawks and about the same number of ISU. ISU has probably risen in the recent years.

He’s not going to Nebraska. As others have mentioned Ohio State and maybe Michigan probably the only college jobs you’d have to worry about. He’s not a good fit in the SEC and pretty much everything else the risk/reward doesn’t make sense.

Grew up in SW Iowa in the 80's and 90's. Heavy Hawks and Huskers, minimal Clones. Probably saw more people sporting FSU gear than ISU.

I'm personally hoping they go 5-7 for the rest of eternity. My personal best case scenario would be if they were 2-7 before running off three straight to close the season against Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa.

Man, where I was at was all Hawks and Huskers. Being a Cyclone fan growing up in the 80's and 90's it was rough.

I get 5-7, but to me 6-6 is worse for UNL fans. The Weedeater Mayonnaise Bowl in perpetuity would be a Groudhog Day hell...

I bet that would save his job too.
