I wasn't able to get in on this since I'm not on their mailing list. But since Drake is the host I'm assuming they will get some chance at a pre-sale as well. I poked around their website and couldn't find a way to sign up for their fan club or anything like that. Has anyone else checked into that and found anything worthwhile?

I imagine that sale has already taken place.

I'm guessing it was like last time when ISU was the host school. Cyclone Club members got first dibs. I'm guessing the Drake equivalent got the same deal before this was offered to those of us on the Iowa Events center mailing list yesterday. Just guessin' tho. Doubt it is a "fan club" benefit. Probably had to be a Drake season tix holder/donor.

Got 3 tickets on the presale last night. I'm pretty pumped for my 1st tournament experience, although our seats are in the 300 level.

Eh, not life or death if I don't get tickets - can just buy them on the aftermarket if the price is OK later if I want I guess.

When it was here a couple years ago the first day just happened to be on St Paddy's day and I went downtown around 9am and took in the atmosphere before finding a prime seat at one of the Court Ave. bars to watch ISU and the other games that day. Sat next to an Indiana fan that was buying some time before his team played later and he was impressed with how much Des Moines had grown since he last been here over 10 years ago. I probably had more fun on Court Ave that day than I would have paying a high price for a single ticket to go into the games.
I also am not to concerned about getting tickets. Unless Iowa or ISU are playing there will be plenty of tickets. I had tickets last time and only went to one session. I believe ISU was playing the other two. Gave my tickets away. Top row seats. The session I did go to, I moved down closer to court.

Why is the tournament a week later next year?

Not sure if you got a response yet to your question — my basic answer/guess: If an annual event is scheduled based on day of the week (as opposed to a specific date) the date moves back one day each successive year (and back two days in leap years). So, to match the regular season/conference tournament cycle, about every 6 years, the tournament start has to be shifted ahead one week.

I'm not 100% sure if that's the reasoning, I didn't cross-reference dates of recent years to see if that's how it's been done.

What seed would ISU need to be to get placed in DM? Top 4 seed?
I’m not sure of the exact rules of seeding and placement, but I thought there might be something against a lower seeded team having a homecourt advantage over a higher seeded team in the first 2 rounds.
Anybody know the exact rules?

I dont think so, think about KU. they always get to play closest to home

To play in Des Moines Iowa State will have to be a 4 seed at worst. Anything lower than a 4 and they would have a "home court advantage" over a higher seed in the second round and that just doesn't happen.

Thats because they’re always a 1-2 seed so they get that home court advantage.

But I doubt they give a 6 seed homecourt advantage over a possible 3/6 seed matchup.
Oh i see what you are saying. I actually think they are allowed to move you 1 spot up or down in seeding to be closer to home, at least i think i heard that once.

I don't know the exact rules, but I'll try to be helpful anyway. Drake is the official host of the regional. I am 87.5% sure that means ISU has no restrictions whatsoever on getting sent to the Des Moines regional. When ISU hosted the regional, I'm 91.3% sure that ISU was not allowed to be there no matter what they were seeded. Generally, higher seeds get preference for closer geographical locations (but no guarantees). No matter what ISU is seeded, though, I am 78% sure that Des Moines is not ever a guarantee.
Unless of course ISU is the overall #1 seed in which case they get first preference and placed closest to home before anyone else.

I almost forgot about the presale, but I picked up 2 all sessions yesterday. Just a reminder that it goes through May 31, just in case others were like me and were putting it off.

Baylor got to play in Texas as a 6 seed a few years ago. Don't count on it making sense.

We could be a 2 seed and get shipped out.

Ah yep, 6-Baylor got to play 3-Creighton in San Antonio. So it is possible, but unlikely.

Seems they always get to play within driving distance. Too bad ISU didn't make more of its chance in Chicago, think UVA was perhaps just a bad matchup for us. Very ironic for me was that I lived in Chicago 14 years and moved away six months before our NCAA tourney games at the UC.

So you're saying it's all your fault.
