NCAA Tickets for Des Moines

My confirmation email says "Thank you for your purchase." and gives confirmation number. Seems like this is legit ticket purchase and not just the chance to buy tickets.
I just logged in again and there are still opportunities to buy up to 8 tickets. Not sure where you saw that,
So not knowing where the seats are located during purchase. Does everyone assume that the $228 tickets are upper ends and the $270 tickets are upper sides with lower level seats being held for future sales and school allotments?
You will have very nice seats for whichever zone you chose, as this pre-general public sales. I have done this before through other sites where I had an "in", and have always been pleased with my seats. That being said, enjoy seeing the Hawkeyes and / or the Jayhawks play! I'm following ISU to St.Louis or wherever they send the Cyclones since they cannot play in Des Moines in 2016.
Probably. Wells Fargo Arena has had enough large events to know how to make the process work. Who would ever buy tickets to WFA again if a pair was split up? It makes no sense to that to happen.
Unrelated funny story. Last year we booked a flight to Vegas with another couple - except at different times. When we ordered plane tickets online it said there was a $13.99 charge to ensure seats would be next to each other. We declined and ended up being split. Our friends also ordered tickets and declined the same change and their seats were split up. Guess where both our our seats were split up? Right next to each other. So we just switched seats and each couple got to sit next to each other.
tl;dr - airline purposely split up 2 seats for not paying the extra charge.
