NBA: *** NBA Playoffs Thread V2.0 ***

I would laugh so hard at a Memphis Pacers Finals.

Not gonna happen, but if it's any consolation to you as a Bulls fan and Lebron hater, the Pacers and Grizzlies will both game plan around being physical with Lebron. He won't need to flop, because both those teams will beat on him. If he goes down, it'll be because of legit contact.
If I had to guess today, I'd say the remainder of the playoffs go like this -
Pacers over the Knicks in six
Heat over the Bulls in five
Grizzlies over the Thunder in six
Spurs over Warriors in seven

Heat over Pacers in six
Grizzlies over Spurs in seven

Heat over Grizzlies in six

I like Memphis' defense and size, but I'm not sure who guards Lebron. Other than that they match up really well.

I think the Pacers have a similar problem that the Bulls had but for different reasons. The Bulls had no bench because of injuries/sickness. The Pacers have no bench because their bench sucks. Both the Bulls and the Pacers have a hard time scoring. Indiana's defense is a little better than Chicago's though. The key for the Pacers is Roy Hibbert. If I were Spoelstra, I'd start my small lineup and make Hibbert guard Bosh on the perimitor. Spoelstra's fascination with playing Haslem is reaching Scott Brooks level. He's still deserving of being in the rotation, unlike Perkins, but in no way should he be getting more minutes than Chris Andersen and 3 less mpg than Shane Battier.

Should we get a Memphis/Miami finals, it would be a really intriguing matchup in terms of who's guarding who when Miami goes to the Battier lineup. I can't see who Randolph would guard facing that lineup. On the other hand, LeBron would have to guard Randolph and that could wear him down.

So if the spurs lose, I would have to guess that is it for the duncan ginobli parker combo. They are finished. The lakers are finished, barring getting Kevin Love who Ive heard is rumored to be heading to Chicago in a Deng Boozer deal. I think if Memphis can add one more small piece they can become the Spurs and make a run every few years.

On ESPN radio today they were talking about a 2 year window and it's over for the Heat. Wade will be done, Bosh done, Allen gone and Lebron being able to leave (which I imagine he will).

radom thoughts.

Why do we think Bosh will be done? He has the sort of game that can last a long time. Also, who in their right mind wouldn't want to come play with LeBron? I think there is more than two years there if the organization and players so choose. Maybe 5 or so.

Right, I agree that bosh can play a long time, I just dont think it will be with the Heat. I think money will play a part in that.

Well, they are all player options, so the organization can really only trade to prevent it. But it is over $60mil tied up in 3 players in 2014/15. The current salary cap is $58mil and luxury tax is $70mil. With the new progressive tax rate, keeping all three will become extremely expensive.

Now LeBron's window won't be closed, but it is unlikely that it would still be with the other two members of the big 3. And quite possibly not in Miami.

I wouldn't bank on the DUncan/Manu/Parker/Poppovich era being over quite just yet. Parker is still in his prime (closer to the end of it than the beginning, I'll give you that), Duncan is still an interior force on defense (3rd in the NBA in blocks per game this year) and if they can find a way to limit his regular season minutes, Manu can still pick his spots. I can see them challenging for a top four seed in the West next season. Beyond that, who knows? But then again you could say that for just about every NBA team. The league is always in flux and damn near any player can be traded.

Young Teams:
Golden State with Curry
Indiana Pacers with one guy over 27.
Maybe Memphis?
Houston is not that old.

In any case, we may see a changing of the guard.

The Knicks have been awful in this series, which has been great for my Pacers.
