National Anthem

90% of fans are showing up specificially because they are iowa state fans, most of them having a personal connection to the university. To act like these are the same is asinine.

Also, its not like the band plays it before every event the way the SSB is anyway. It goes afterwards for basketball.

I appreciate this decision from basketball. Most alma maters, from what I understand, are played after games, not before.

As far as the national anthem, it’s not going anywhere, I think that’s obvious. I wouldn’t boycott or anything if they stopped it, but it would be weird.

For those of you that want to get rid of it, we could just sing Baby Shark instead. :jimlad:

I feel very patriotic and proud of my country but I don't feel like the National Anthem affects it either way. I suppose if there's a really cool performance it's worth it. Otherwise, just get to the game.

But it's an extremely slow, boring song. Which was your original knock on the anthem.

Only if you take what i said originally and cut out part of what I said. Bells is not out of place because it is an iowa state sporting event.

But it's unnecessary, slow, and boring. All things that you said bothered you about the anthem.

I agree that Bells "belongs" more than the anthem, but every other point you made applies more so to Bells than the anthem, IMO, and in the opinions of many.

Let's take it out and bring back the Cyclone Power guy (was it Jeff Johnson?), except have him at all events doing "America!...Power!"

if it is not played at games, then when will we get to sing it?

I think the pledge of allegiance should be said every morning to start the school day, and the anthem should be sung at sporting events.

It is a grim reminder of the sacrifices made so that Americans can enjoy a football game with their families free from fear, a hotdog, and a beer.,

Of course, I am ex-military, so my view, which was once shared by all, may now be in the minority.
Why doesn't every work office say the pledge of allegiance at the start of the day? Why isn't the national anthem played before middle school sporting events, Iowa State intramurals, or farmers markets?

I get it when its like the Olympics medal ceremony.
I question why we play it when the players, coaches are still in the locker room at Hilton.
Even this last Saturday, the Gameday people were disassembling the ESPN desk and rolling it across the court while it was being played.
That last part was bad. It wasn't like they took it out the east door and onto a truck. They rolled it to the student section and left it to go do something else.
Your second statement is backwards, as I understand it. The "team" (whoever, not sure) decided to stay in the locker room rather than on the floor for the national anthem. It was their decision, not the band's. Also, we have so much more flash and light show just before we're introduced, I think it would seem abnormally lengthy to have them out there.

I think the team has been in the locker room for years now during the anthem, haven't they?

Yes, don't remember when it started, but there are still questions now and then about it.
