Must win next week?

People keep saying that fans are going to stop showing up and they haven't yet.

I think some fair weather fans are hoping people will stop showing up. And if you want a coaching change, by all means, don't show up.

But I'll continue to show up because I think this team fights really hard and I think the coaches aren't all that bad. We've lost to 3 ranked teams. And one really good lower level team. I'm disappointed that we lost to NDSU and that is a bad thing. But the last 3 losses? Not terrible. Especially K State which one could say that we partially lost by yet another bad officiating call.

I long for the day when our football program isn't at the point of "must win" against friggen Toledo. We really are a bottom feeder of FBS football.

Who is the head coach in waiting. Surely not the OC since his play calling hasn't brought victories. Why would he be better as a he coach.

Well the guy did get a historically bad program to double digit wins and a BCS game. I like his chances to get us to 7 wins and a minor bowl. He might even have a plan to put an OL line in place that can facilitate a running game. If it's not him, somebody out there can recruit and develop O Linemen. What a travesty to not be able to run the damn football. All the whining about how hard it is to win here from some quarters (not pointing at you 62)… and we can't recruit and develop 300 lb. road graders that can open a friggin' hole for running backs. No running game, no other chance for the offense. If we looked like this after another year under Mark Mangino, I would be on his case just as hard. However, he has a track record of success. I'm not a fan of mid season firings, but if the AD were tempted to make a change (I know he won't) Mangino would be a logical choice to step in, at least on an interim basis. I have a really bad feeling about next week. You think this place is rough today. Wait until we lose to a MAC team at home. I have no confidence in a Rhoads led program at this point.

How many losses do the teams we have played have combined? 2 right? To us and Auburn. We've played 3 of the 4 best teams in the conference and NDSU is probably a top 30 team in the country even if they are FCS. People act like we've lost to Iowa. The only team worse than pretty good we've played, we beat. Now we have a chance to play a much easier set of 7 games and we have a chance to win some of them. I think we win next week pretty handily. 34-10. This defense looks good right now.

3 losses. How many good wins do the teams we have played have?

It is not the losses- it is the junior high football mistakes that contribute to the losses that are the issue. I imagine the teams we have played thus far will have a good record at the end of the year. We won't, but at the end of the year we can point to stats like our first 5 opponents winning percentage or that we "improved" over the course of the year.

Must win for what?

To at least match last year's win tally?

Season's effectively over kids. I'll watch, I'll cheer. But there's no pot-o-gold at the end of this rainbow.

I don't think many people thought ISU was going to make a bowl game. They wanted to see improvement throughout the year to see if Mangio's offense would begin to help this team win. Losing to Toledo at this point in the season would not be an improvement in play. That's why it's must win imo.

I'm one of those people. But improvement doesn't necessarily translate into wins - particularly for ISU in the Big XII.

Conversely - wins really don't equate to improvement either.

But point taken. If nothing else, a win is necessary for the fans and probably to salvage any sort of team morale.

I do agree a win means almost nothing but a loss to Toledo would crystallize many people's opinion that CPR should go.

It is pretty much a must win situation now. The team has shown, that at times, it is capable of playing winning football. I take that as a sign of improvement, but at some point in time you have to win games, and do it in front of the home crowd.

Toledo is putting up and giving up a lot of points, so it could be a wild game. Despite the loss today, I was impressed with how far the defense has come since the disaster in the first game.

I say this and then see that Toledo has 3 point with a couple minutes left in the 3rd.

How do you explain the 2012 class and the 2015 one so far. Those look to be far worse than anything Mac or Chizik ever compiled.

Glad to know you are psychic and already know the 2015 class is bad. I could use your help on the Stock market. Either that or you have watched all the kids HS games and qualify as a football talent scout.

I like our young talent at certain key positions- oline, qb, wr, db. Sure we need to fill some gaps and I feel the staff is doing that. I have more concern with our talent development and focus on fundamentals than recruit rankings.

As it stands now it is. We are even with the 2012 class and if you want to see how that year turned out look for yourself.
