Love this. Have you checked out Benjamin Vogt's Prairie Up. He's great! VERY opinionated, too, which I love.

I stopped mowing the back 20-30 feet of my yard last summer after I noticed a few fireflies. I also blow all of my leaves into that area. I have hundreds of fireflies this year.

I live in Minnesota so for me this would result in going from 100,000 mosquitos in my backyard to 1,000,000 mosquitos and still no lightning bugs.

I had a horrible mosquito problem last year. There are noticeably fewer this year. Not sure of the reason, it's even been wetter this year than last.

I just saw an article that stated that Minnesota was in a 5 year high for skeeter population this year.

I just certified my backyard as a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. Here's a pic of part of it.
