Also, there is nothing wrong with eating pork or chicken, either. This seems like some of those extreme “health” people you see on tv basically saying you can never eat anything it will kill you.
I would agree. Elimination diets aren't viable long term. Work to change your eating habits towards balance and exercise regularly. Drink lots of water and sleep enough.

I cringe every time someone told me there were trying the keto thing. Might not be a much worse “diet” out there. You’re telling me I can’t have bread, but I can have bacon wrapped, deep fried steak with cheese curds on top? There is nothing wrong with carbs people! It is not sustainable at all. Just like with anything in life, moderation is the key.

Get a lot of things from the ground and eat them, add in some protein sources, fruits, and lots of water.
 
That has to be liberating, keep up the good work. Im sure it’s a huge relief.

I am not ashamed to admit that depression, a dead-end job and a toxic workplace lead me to tipping the scales at 401 pounds. I have gradually lost a bunch of that weight and managed to change my life so as to prevent that slide from happening again.

Not a popular statement, but I kind thank COVID for helping me with hitting my goals. When I recovered from Covid back 2020, my taste buds changed, soda became too sweet for me and tasted awful. Sugary foods and drinks just didn’t taste very good.

Ordering groceries online and picking them up helped me avoid temptations when walking through the store. I found healthy foods I liked. Stopped eating out altogether.

Every person I’ve known that wasn’t already a fit person with a fit mindset that does keto has always, always, always, sprung back the opposite way after they inevitably fall off the keto wagon after like 5 days. Unsustainable to the average person.
 
MN has tons of bike trails in and around the cities. Always really busy in the nice months with bikers, runners and walkers. Also lots of people go up north in the summer to hike, bike and paddle. Lots of good trail systems up there as well. Lots of cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months. Not sure how our trail systems compare to other states but I've had people tell me we supposedly have one of the best bike trail systems in the country.

Oh it works, just not easy. And no you shouldn't be eating anything fried. Typically lean meats, ancient grains, dairy, berries, anything green is good to go. Pistachios help my sweet tooth craving.

That sounds like one of many diets that focuses on some specific things that aren't intuitive, at least to me.
I have been eating a metric **** ton of omega 6 FA for twenty years. My family and I go through tons of olive oil. We are pretty damn lean.

Basically I avoid added sugar, and almost never eat until I'm bloated. Lift 3x a week. Only cardio is rebounding for one kid shooting hoops and help the other with baseball (not a whole lot there).
 
As someone that has lots of friends and family in both the twin cities and Madison as well as rural SE Minnesota and western Wisconsin I can assure you there is a big difference. There is even a difference in rural northern and NE Minnesota vs southern. Access to and the desire to do year round active hobbies plays a big role.

It was more of a joke about the fried crap. I understand it can be healthy ish, but it is not a sustainable diet. No one should ever “diet”, honestly, they need to change their lifestyle, as this is a sustainable way to look at it. There is nothing sustainable about quick fixes things like keto are designed for.

Carbs are gonna be a problem for anyone who isn't active though.

Not really. Calories in and out is really why matters. You could eat all carbs, wouldn’t be healthy enough, and still lose weight. One medium baked potato is only 160 ish calories and 37 grams of carbs. Starchy foods all have high carbs but they are good for you, when staying within a calorie deficit. Oatmeal is another example of high carbs but good for you foods. Again, carbs are not the problem whoever made them out to be said. They are good for us.

Man, getting enough sleep is just critical. Otherwise we often treat tiredness with food (glucose) to wake us up.

Sleep gets a ton of press, but I feel like it still needs more press.
