Most disappointing concerts attended!

311 in Des Moines, it was probably 2004ish. One of the few concerts that I've left early from.

I'm surprised. They were a great live band back when I went and saw them a few times. That was a while ago though, before 2004. They are probably getting pretty old.

Bob Dylan in Iowa City a few years ago, it was painful to watch.

Not that you've been able to understand a word Dylan has uttered since sometime back in the 70's. But that night was particularly bad.

I remember going to "Dotfest 2" in 1998. There a lot of bad bands there. I've never been a fan of Slipknot.

The worst was Marcy Playground, who's only hit song ever was "Sex and Candy". They played that song, a few terrible other songs, and then played Sex and Candy again. My GF at the time loved that song and I just couldn't stand it.


Goldfinger and The Urge were awesome that day though, so I was pretty happy overall.

I wouldn't necessarily call it "disappointing", but I'm a big Jason Isbell fan since his days in Drive-By Truckers. When I saw him last year in Minneapolis, he basically played note-for-note replications of his studio tracks, and never really improvised or shredded much on his guitar (and the guy can really play). It was powerful, and competent but it kind of lacked that ragged glory/energy of a great rock and roll show, and I know the guy is more than capable of that sort of performance. His playing in the Twin Cities or DSM is no longer in the "must see" category it once was for me.

I am seeing Isbell tonight. He is just a different performer than he used to be, apples and oranges.

For most disappointing, not considering some of the shows I have been drug along to or just tagged along with no particular expecatations ... I saw Johnny Lang with Jason Mraz opening in the early 2000s. Brutal. Someone had gotten to Jonny by then, either Prince or Jesus, I suspect. Mraz was even worse, I couldn't listen so I drank beer in the lobby.

Alejandro Escovedo was also disappointing, as was Cody Canada and the Departed.

I'm curious as to what people expected from Bob Dylan. He is what he is when it comes to live shows.

Hank Williams Jr........ most horrible show I've ever seen, he was totally incoherent/stoned. Slurred all of his lyrics, his band, knew he was so bad, they had scared looks on their faces the whole show. Felt sorry for the Band.

I can agree to this...if you've listened to any Dylan albums from the past 10 years, his live show isn't all too bad since he sounds...like he sounds now. He's also not known for his live shows being great, although I'd argue that he's always reworked his own stuff.

I found him disappointing when I first saw him in 2004, but saw him again in '06 and enjoyed it...the band was unique and tight, and it was a fairly crisp sound.

And Rolling Thunder Revue is just a great live collection imo.
