The story about that HQ reminds me of an old investing proverb --
Once a company builds itself a fancy headquarters, start shorting it.
It is no longer a young and hungry beast looking for rapid growth and to change the world at that point. One that cares fundamentally about its products and mission, even if it resides in some trashy suburban office park that basically nobody else wanted.
It is now a conventional institution, settling in for what might yet be a long and profitable life, but it is still converting itself into a life of status and contentedness, not changing the world.
It is all downhill from there.
