***MLB Postseason Thread***

Yeah, a sweep is obviously the best-case scenario. Even if the Nats take the first two, it's very possible that Carpenter beats Jackson in Game 3...but then they have to win two more, on the road. That's an uphill climb for the Cardinals.

Anything can happen, but I'll be pretty surprised if this series goes to a Game 5.

I think Wainwright and Carpenter are going games 1 and 2. You act like those are sure wins for Nats.

That is stupid. I could see the rest of the regular season but no playoffs that's just ***ing stupid. Who knows if the Nats even get back to the playoffs again.

They messed up from the start. They should have had him start in the bullpen like Medlen. Could have had him for the playoffs then.

I think the extra playoff umpires situation probably contributed to the call. Seems like the infield fly rule should be called by an infield umpire, not the foul line umpire. I'm guessing if this was called with a regular 4 man crew, there would have been no infield fly call.

BTW, who's rooting for the O's here? I know I am.

Also, rulzz, thanks for not ignoring me. Me haz sad. Just stupid arguing. :D

Actually, I don't credit the Nationals at all, because they botched it up.

There is another playoff team, I want to say it's the Orioles but I could be wrong about it, that has a rookie pitcher that they wanted to limit innings for this year. Instead of burning all his innings up before September rolled around, they started him in the bullpen when the season started and transitioned him into the starter role, and then in late September started lengthening the time between starts a few games. Guess what - that team has that young stud pitcher for the postseason, while the Nats don't have Strassbourg until 2013

Yeah, that's a good point; they could have had him pitch from the pen or just started him later in the year.

And let's be honest--Strasburg's a Boras client, and Boras is very close to the Nats' GM Mike Rizzo. I'd be pretty shocked if Boras wasn't twisting Rizzo's arm and pressuring him to shut Strasburg down.

I'd love to see Baltimore win this. I'm hoping for an A's vs O's ALCS. Not only great, young talent for both, but some of the best unis in the game

I hate the Cards because they're the luckiest team on the face on the earth. It goes just beyond this game as well.

You are claiming alot for a team that has never been in the post season. Matheny and more importantly Yady, Carp, Waino will have this team ready to go. If this series only goes 5 games with the Nats winning I would be shocked.

It's a best of 5.

Dude you can EASILY limit his innings throughout the year. They could have shut him down or bullpenned him for 3 months if they wanted. They had a huge lead and an even bigger lead on the wild card. They were wrong and used him wrong. No 2 ways around it.

I'm sure if the Nationals knew they'd be in contention at the start of the season, they'd have done it differently. Strasburg was shut down well before they even clinched; it's not like they could just have him sit out a month, get rusty, and then pick up where he left off.
