At one point I thought Olde Main or someone like that wanted to have a large banquet room at that KMart complex.

Olde Main wanted to build new on one or two parcels just south of Earl May on S. Kellogg, across from the entrance to GrandStay/Old Chicago.

Then they failed miserably or your thought was wrong. They have been expanding a lot.

They were all set to expand into the Kansas City area 4 years ago (had city approvals, etc), and when Obama got re-elected, they put it on hold. Just this spring/summer they started building stores in Olathe and Independence.

That area is one heckuva flood plain. They'd have to really work at that.

KMart is not in the flood plane. The flood water in that area goes north of the creek.

Surprised this hasn't been posted. Any time I have question about developments I go to this and it has always been correct. Here is the official map and list of new developments in Ames. interesting notes include..

-Olde Main is opening a convention Center next to Hickory Hall
-basically all of Ada Hayden will be surrounded by houses in 5 to 10 years
-Kmart still holds the lease and there is no new information
-some sort of restaurant is opening up across the street from Ames Christian School on SE 16th street

Also, the restaurant on S. 16th is going to be a noodle restaurant.
