MBB Open Scholarship

Wonder what the deal with Tyler Harris is. He is ranked 68th, he seems to like Iowa State. We seem to be the ones not going after him. Wonder if we told Haliburton that he is the only point guard we are after? Otherwise the coaching staff might be concerned that he is not really that far into us.

He's 142nd by 247 for a composite of 128

You need to realize what type of player the staff is targeting. If they don't target an immediate eligible PG than I am not concerned one bit about it. They know what they have. If they go after a certain type of player and miss that's when you get concerned. I am guessing they are going after best available sit out

Didn't someone post that Prohm visited Harris recently? Without a source to support this statement, it may just be Peterson's opinion only, and you know how much respect Cyclone Nation has for his opinions.

The staff has visited Harris in February, and Harris has been associated with ISU in recent recruiting articles on Rivals as an option. Baylor and Tennessee have been considered the favorites over the past month. The wild card is Memphis the past two weeks depending on if Tubby is relieved of duties and Penny takes over.
One other aspect minor is THT, Zion, and Halibuton have a relationship with Harris and have been congratulating him during the spring.

I don't think ISU should be considered the favorite for Tyler as of today but I do think the staff still has interest and well see how things work out. Long standing relationships could benefit ISU at this point.

TH may be looking for more immediate playing time, which he would have had if he'd signed in last summer but right now he looks to have other options to consider.

Good Point. We shouldn't just look at last season and that is exactly how the team will play next year. Normal development from ISU current players is just as likely to solve the shooting deficiencies as adding a new player from a lower level.
I fully expect NWB to be back at full strength, and LW to improve his ball handling. Shayok should have improved his shooting during his RS year. Lewis showed a nice shot and should be that shooter. THT and Haliburton are both top 150 recruits that should be able to fill in as secondary ball handlers.

If our only worry at this point is back up PG extra shooter is a pretty good place to be to be a program. Having the open scholarship with a strong team should allow the staff to be very selective on whom ever they decide to add.

At the last place I lived, we had a huge walnut tree. It was easily 40 feet tall, and produced a lot of shade. It had clearly been growing there a very long time. We'd pick up the nuts every fall and hull them and crack them only to discover that almost all of them were bad. After a couple years of doing that we stopped putting a lot of faith in the nuts from that tree.

But who can play the point WELL? Only Babb and he still is learning the position so that is even in question.

Due to NWB's injury, Wigginton played a lot more point minutes then he would have which produced a lot of film the coaches can use to help LW get better.

I see LW making a big jump at point next year.

Didn't Haliburton have a really good senior year? And named Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year? Everyone seems to be downplaying what a great get he is and assuming Harris would be better. If they are comparable in skills, and not that far apart in ratings, I like 6'5" over 5'10" as a plus for Tyrese. I admit I have not seen Harris play so if he has something special I may not be aware of it.

Its not that. It's that we are a guard oriented team. Another great Point would be a nice add. Then let it work it's way out

This. Haliburton is sort of discussed as an afterthought due to the hype behind THT and Zion, but he's a legit prospect and could be ready for some spot minutes right away.

Haliburton has had a phenomenal senior season and won the Gatorade Player of the Year award over Jordan McCabe (West Virginia) and Tyler Herro (Kentucky). IMO that's saying something that he beat out two guards that are signed major P5 schools. More than held his own head to head with McCabe twice with McCabe as well.

I live in the Madison area now, so hoping to catch his Oshkosh North team in the state semi finals/finals this weekend at the Kohl Center to watch him play.

Just an FYI, the signing period opens up April 11, so in four weeks. It ends May 16. So if anything happens with another freshman, e.g., Harris, it has to happen by then.
