Kicking a field goal there is the right call. But yes the mismanagement of the last quarter was my biggest gripe.
Not when the offense is moving the ball and you have a fresh set of downs. We were in a better position to score a TD at that point than after an on side kick.

Maybe the thread title is a little harsh but I don’t see why we can’t criticize Matt Campbell for losing his 6th straight to an instate rival. Campbell talks about winning in the margins and just got absolutely schooled the the margins master, Kirk Ferentz.

He gets all the praise when we win, he should get the blame when we lose, especially when we were out schemed.

I will defend their commitment to the run game. We have our first consensus all American running back who needs to just get touches. Problem is they're stacking the box and pushing the corners on the line and making Brock do what he's not good at.
I don’t get it. If the box is stacked, spread the field and pass the ball. In the first half drives that were predominantly run on first down went nowhere. Running Breese into a stacked box every first down wears him out for nothing. Allowing Iowa to stack the box plays into their strengths. Supposedly we have depth depth depth. Use it and play fast to wear out the opponents. Slowing the game down just helps the Hawks.

My perspective isn’t that Iowa forced Brock into the pocket passing game. To me he is being forced/coached into it, away from his strengths. One of the symptoms was the passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.

In the third quarter everything went haywire. Not sure what to say after that.

All of the Hawks points came from our mistakes.
INT>TD
Bad Punt>TD
Fumble>TD
INT>FG
INT>FG

Purdy had a bad bad day. Makes me wonder how bad our receiving core and O-line is.

Breece fluke fumble is forgiven although it couldn’t have come in a more crucial moment.

Dunn is done. Get him off the field for good. He takes to long to get off punts and has proven for every booming punt there is a dud.

Iowa’s offense sucks. Like way below average sucks. So they rely on their defense to create turnovers and special teams. And so far this year, our defense has been great but we haven’t created many game changing plays and our special teams, especially punting, has been average to below average (especially yesterday). We need the offense to be average or slightly above average and it most definitely hasn’t been so far.

The play calling all game was s***. Brock was in his own head by the time Dekkers came in not to mention they said Purdy was seen limping around. I applaud them for putting in Dekkers, Sanders etc. Had we made that field goal at the end we would have only lost by seven. SEVEN. We turned the ball over 4 freakin times. Good to see the fight out of the second stringers especially Eli Sanders.

Yeah, I supported putting Dekkers in. Purdy just clearly wasn't having it, and when you're in a hole already, largely due to your QB1 clearly not having it, the thing to do is to put in QB2 because at the very least it's not like the QB2 could do any worse. Dekkers did bitter, but Manning's play calling was bad and not adjusted to the situation at hand.

I don't think that Campbell gave up as much as Campbell and Manning decided to pull a Scott Frost with the offense for whatever reason and not adjust their playcalling to the situation at hand.

I was more concerned with he different playcalljng with the QB's. They wouldn't open up the passing game with Purdy but did with Dekkers. Is there something going on that's keeping Purdy from throwing the ball down field, or is it just stubbornness from the coaches?
Iowa was in prevent. Purdy would have done well against prevent too, although I thought Dekkers looked good.

I keep waiting for a play action on that first down. Purdy's pretty good at throwing on the run and the receivers fit well with that as well.

After the fumble, seemed like Breece was playing with a little 'extra' on his runs.

I hope this lights a fire under the players and coaches. Campbell's postgame presser was a good start.
