Matt Campbell gets PAID.

Between the 4-6 highest paid coach in the Big 12, about the 28th highest paid coach in the NCAA from what I can tell.

Very appropriate. He did fantastic this year and every fan wants him and his entire staff to stay. BUT JP wasn't foolish to sign him some lifetime deal. At the end of the day, 7 wins isn't the top of the mountain.

Thrilled with this news!

Great news! Glad it got finalized today. It's nice not to be dead last in our football coach's salary.

Next question..what is the buyout? I am curious if it is still 100% buyout of the remainder of the contract like the old one was.

Love this. I think one of Pollard's many strengths is his relationship with coaches. Sitting down with Campbell and asking HIM want he WANTS is pretty cool. And its really nice to see him step up not only for the head coach but a million dollars goes a long ways in the assistant pool.

"Matt and I agreed during the season to wait until after his last regular-season game to have these discussions," Pollard said. "Matt, Erica (Campbell), Ellen (Pollard) and I met last night at our house and had a wonderful discussion about what matters to their family, their staff and our program. It is awesome that we share common values about loyalty, hard work and family. I could not be more excited for our fans and our student-athletes to have someone like Matt leading our program. He stands behind what he says and I look forward to helping him fulfill his dream of making Iowa State football one of the best programs in the nation."

"I want to thank Jamie (Pollard) for respecting my desire to hold off these conversations until our regular season ended and also for being proactive in supporting the needs of my staff and team as we build a legacy at Iowa State University," Campbell said in a statement. "The commitment that he and Iowa State have made to us — including some exciting facility enhancements on the horizon — has been critical to my vision for our team going forward."

(North endzone improvement process must be moving along well.)

Looks like the assistant pool went from $2.32 million to $3.23 million. That. Is. Massive.

Campbell’s new salary takes him from 53rd nationally to inside the top 30 among 2017 salaries, according to the USA Today database. He goes from being just above Rutgers’s Chris Ash to right around the 2017 salaries earned by Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck and LSU’s Ed Orgeron. Iowa State’s staff pay was $2.32 million in 2017, per USA Today, and will from sitting just below Rutgers to in the neighborhood of Kansas State and Virginia.

I said a few times on here, even this week, that JP's overarching and existential goal had to be a competent, competitive football team in the 2023-2024 range.

Locking Campbell up through that period is the most likely way to accomplish this.

Heck of a day for the future of ISU football, sports, and the university overall. Kudos to JP for getting it done and the new Prez for letting him go and do it.
