Is it wrestling season yet!? Excited to see these new guys finally get on the mat.
Me too! I'm not saying we're going to be back in the top 10 or anything but we will be drastically better this year if everyone stays healthy!
My projected lineup at the beginning of the year:

I personally think that Carr will redshirt until Southern Scuffle - And then after he shows what he can do there, they pull the redshirt.
Also, look for some exciting news at the end of this week/weekend!

Should hopefully hear some coaching news (shouldn't be a shocker to anyone who follows wrestling) - and we will have some top kids on visits this weekend

Talked to Coach Dresser at the Cyclones Unplugged event last Thursday, He said the room is still really green, but we'll see them evolve a lot through the season this year.
Agree. Dresser thinks we will see some good wins, but consistency will be the key.
I also would not be surprised if the coaching updates are St John and Metcalf moving up and Carr or Gadson moving into VC role for a year. That was an option if the right guy wasn't available. I haven't heard any updates for a couple weeks though

Top 10 could happen if we stay healthy and get the performances from a year of improvement under the current staff. Hope to make it to outdoor practice this weekend. 2 months out for wrestling. Super excited.
I would honestly take top 20-25 this year. Just continue seeing improvement would count as a successful season to me. That and getting at least 1 blue chipper in 2019, even though I'd prefer 2.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the thread title. Very relieved this is positive news.
We should be in top 20 with Miklis, Gomez and Degen points alone. If this team doesn’t Place in top 10-12 then that will mean there was little to no improvement from the end of last year by each individual.
Yeah I think your expectations are out of whack.
For reference, 20th last year was UNC with 27pts. They had 8 qualifiers including a 4th and 7th place finisher.
12th was SDSU with 42pts. They had 7 qualifiers one of which was National Champ Seth Gross and then a 7th and 8th place finisher.
EXPECTING top 10-12 is just setting yourself up for disappointment. For us to go top 12 we're going to need to qualify at least 7-8 guys and have at least 3 AA's with one of those being a high AA in the 2nd/3rd range... tell me who those guys are all going to be. Hell Oklahoma State sent 9 qualifiers last year, had 4 AA's (5th, 8th, 8th, 8th) and finished 13th.
I would take a season like UNC's 20th place finish last year in a heart beat honestly. If we could qualify 8 guys and have a couple of AA's that would be a big step forward. Miklus is the only one you would feel really confident to AA if healthy. Several guys who have that potential if they jump levels, but to assume we're a top 20 team automatically is a big of a reach.
I want to get back to top 20 this year. I don't think that is a far stretch, but shows that we have competitive guys as a first step
About right. I came up with 5.5 points. 3 placement points for finish 8th, plus 2 wins in the championship bracket (1pt each) and one win in the consolation bracket (0.5pt). All by decision, no bonus points.
Would have given us 8.5 total points and T-34 w/ Stanford.
I expect Gomez and Miklus to be top 4. I expect Parker, Degen and Colbray to contend for AA status. I expect 125, 157, 174, 285 to qualify with potential to score points and be a dark horse for AA. If you don't have similar expectations then you are disrespecting the team and coaches. If we don't have similar results then I'm sure coaches would agree that the team under performed. The 5 AA candidates listed were all high quality recruits so it isn't like I'm expecting a walk-on to set the wrestling world on fire. I think we can even do better but this is my base line expectation.
