Man-Man's shoulder...

Monte is tough as nails and will give us everything he's got - let's just hope that is more than he had in him in KC.

Nothing against MM, but if he isn't drastically healed, we need to run the offense through Georges as the point forward.

I felt we missed an opportunity to run some stuff for Matt against Oklahoma. He and Georges can do a nice little two-man game like Georges and Monte do too. Matt has stepped up for the missing Naz and maybe can take over some of Monte's duties too if needed.

My only hope is he's in a slump and is due to get out of it and can play through the pain. His shoulder is obviously hurting him but he was playing pretty poorly for his standards the previous 5 games or so. His shot looked the same at KU pre-shoulder injury as it did in KC

This is all bad news. As many have said, shoulder injuries take a while to get better. Mine took months and still has a 'hitch' in it. If it hurts Thursday, it's gonna be worse on Saturday. Let's hope that ISU can take care of business so that Monte can sit out a lot on Thursday. We'll need him for Saturday, even though he won't be near 100%. I would hate to see him over play on Thursday and then be really hampered on Saturday.

They are giving him cortisone shot prior to games...which tells me he can't raise his arm up very well without it which isn't good. Hopefully a full week off will help some.

It's amazing how many orthopedic surgeons we have at ISU given the lack of a medical school

This! I can't sleep on my right shoulder in the morning. If I roll over on it hurts enough to wake me up. Cancelled signing up for my work golf league after trying to swing a golf club and could not do it without sharp pain. With that said, I KNOW PRETTY MUCH NOTHING ABOUT Man-Mans' shoulder and neither does anyone else here.

They won't be giving him cortisone shots before every game. They don't do those on a day-by-day basis.

If he had one prior to OU I wouldn't expect another one for awhile.

I keep hoping that they are talking about it worse than it is cause I try to stay optimistic.

My shoulders are two of the few parts of my old lady self that give me no trouble whatsoever. Too bad I can't loan one to Monte.

It seems (as expected) that the exact nature of Morris' injury hasn't been revealed. I had a partially torn rotator cuff about two years ago. As other have mentioned, rotator cuff injuries are a bugger, and the time frame over which they heal is weeks and months, not days. If his injury is similar to what I had, it is no surprise that he can't pass the ball or finish a layup. And that injury is going to affect defense and rebounding as well.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Iona drop almost completely off Morris on defense and double other ISU players with his man until he proves he can make a shot.

Good. Then when he catches the ball, he can drive right to the hoop with no trouble. Pretty sure he can still shoot a left handed lay-up just fine...

Monte does this when he is fine too. Matt doesn't get all he looks he could because Monte often chooses not to throw him the ball.

This is an odd pattern in Morris' game. Thomas has to be wiiiide open before Monte will feed him. I don't think there's anything dramatic about it, just comes down to two factors:

1. Fans love 3-pointers and look for open shooters while watching the game. The angles are much different for the guys on the court than the dorks on the couch. He might not be as open as we think.

2. Morris obviously has a high basketball IQ and he prefers to try to get to the lane and get something easy before giving it up to what will surely be a quick 3-pointer.

I think Thomas is a better shooter in a half court set, but Morris does need to feed him more often in transition. Thomas is also a smart player and feeding a shooter when he is open helps confidence.

This means Matt and Nader need to make some shots.

I keep thinking this is just the kind of game where Burton could be a nightmare matchup. Certainly a unique physical specimen.

Rotator cuffs take a lot of strain and to contort to make a layup may be difficult without cortisone. The pain stops you from following through. It does not fix fast. Mine took months. Could not raise my arm at first. Had reoccurence a couple of times after that. I would be surprised Monte goes NBA this year.

Haha, if we needed to be experts on things before we comment on for this board, there wouldn't be many of us here. However, there are a lot of people (including myself) that have met with orthopedic surgeons for shoulder issues, and through that, have gained knowledge I didn't previously have. The fact that Monte said he hopes to be 70% by Thursday, almost 3 weeks after he injured his shoulder, tells me that it is more serious than we have been hoping for/told. I know Monte and team will give it their all, though. GO CYCLONES!

Agree; isn't frequent Cortisone (a corticosteriod) injections damaging to the liver and usually limited to 2-3 per year? I had one for my shoulder and - WOW - what an improvement, but the Doc would not let me have another for at least six months.

With a couple of extra days, hopefully it gave us a chance to work some more sets in with Georges at the PF, as well as Hallice running the PG in practice. Obviously it sucks that Monte will be at 50%, but it will give Hallice a chance to step up.

Another interesting lineup would be Georges at the PF, along with Matt, DB, Nader and Mckat. We shall see.
