Man-Man's shoulder...

I wonder if he would be damaging his shoulder further by playing or is it just a pain thing?

I didn't really see an injury induced sub par performance against OU. It looked more akin to his performances at the tail of the season which I initial pegged as resulting from fatigue.

A week is the most rest they have had since December, right?

The only time it looked like an injury and not a slump was when he was driving to the basket. He was short arming it and missing bad. Even when he has had bad games, he doesn't miss that bad. He also passes up a couple mid range jumpers that he would normally take

I've had two rotator cuff injuries and even if it's minor, getting hit the wrong way or taking a shot at a weird angle and it's going to hurt the rest of the game. Shooting a basketball sucks. A game two days after Iona is going to be a ***** for him.

Rotator cuff injuries suck! I've had one and his performance against OU was injury related. It's not gamesmanship. He said it hurt to pass the ball and to shoot it. it might not prevent a first round win but it's going to be difficult to advance with the second best player on the team injured.

From the bird's eye seats it was easy to see passes weren't made that were normally made. Matt would be wide open in the corner on transition and Monte just wasn't throwing it there. Because he couldn't. Sucks.

This. It will still be an issue for Iona but if we get past them, the one on Saturday will be a major challenge. He will hurt worse then than he will Thursday.

typical Cyclone and NCAA tourney injury luck

No kidding. (First Babb, then Georges, last yr. Mr. Focus, now Monte) Most teams couldn't replace their all-conference pg with a duplicate either, but they'd have a backup in that position. We have no true pg as a backup.

Hopefully he won't be any worse than he was against OU. I think that is enough to get through the first weekend if everyone else performs well. It leaves little margin for error. Really sucks.

My friend and I noticed the same thing during the game, Matt was wide open in his favorite spots and MM would look at him and not make the pass.

Sorry to say, but if he can not make that pass, then I am not sure he should be in the game. At least HC would keep 5 scoring threats on the floor.

I'm concerned but we had a chance to win at KU and again against OU with a less than healthy Monte. So we can still play well and Monte can still be effective (hopefully he doesn't take 9 shots Thursday). If we can play with the #1 overall seed and #2 seed, we should be fine against Iona and possibly Purdue.

Seems to go deeper than the shoulder ... he has struggled for a long time. Averagnv shootng 30% and 3 turnovers per game over last 6 games. Need him back
If it it is a rotator cuff, he will also be back next year.

Monte can still give us good minutes by being a capable ball handler and defender, but Nader, Thomas and Burton will have to shoulder more of the scoring load. Monte doesn't look comfortable shooting the ball.

Did you see the couple of minutes that HC ran the point and Monte was on the bench? White-knuckle couple of minutes.

If it comes down to a last second shot, maybe it will encourage MM to get to the hoop. Blessing in disguise?

Also, I thought Monte did a great job on the boards (6 reb) on Thursday. It may be encouraging him to go contribute in other ways, which may be enough if Georges is scoring at will.

If Georges takes over the game like he did Thursday, Monte won't have to score.

Monte does this when he is fine too. Matt doesn't get all he looks he could because Monte often chooses not to throw him the ball.

It seems (as expected) that the exact nature of Morris' injury hasn't been revealed. I had a partially torn rotator cuff about two years ago. As other have mentioned, rotator cuff injuries are a bugger, and the time frame over which they heal is weeks and months, not days. If his injury is similar to what I had, it is no surprise that he can't pass the ball or finish a layup. And that injury is going to affect defense and rebounding as well.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Iona drop almost completely off Morris on defense and double other ISU players with his man until he proves he can make a shot.
