Malik Monk (friendly reminder that this thread is 2 years old)

Don't buy the location part...Kansas obviously has the tradition, but they also have the same geographic challenge we do. I'm not saying Ames vs. a metro is a plus, but it is not as big of factor as some of the other points you mentioned.

Lawrence has better weather and is 30 min from a 2m+ city. Des Moines is nice and all, but much smaller. Kids in Florida or NYC or wherever have at least heard of Kansas City.

Obviously KU has many more advantages besides that, so I'm not saying that kids choose KU because of their locale, but we are even at a slight disadvantage to Lawrence in location.

It doesn't matter where Monk goes, he's a one and done lottery pick. The NBA drafts for talent, not school. Those schools just happen to have more picks because they pull in more talent. Guys used to get drafted out of HS without playing for a blue blood because they had the talent, like Monk does.

Playing at Kentucky won't increase his chances of it any more than playing at Iowa State would.

the other day I was racing my mazda miata against a corvette, porsche and ferrari. I was really having some racing woes.

we are a mazda miata and blue bloods are ferrari's, porsche's, etc...

What a terrible analogy. ISU is at least a vette. Your blue bloods would be Buggati, Mclaren, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, etc... Cmon, give ISU a little credit.

But we're this Mazda Miata:

I'd say we're a Tesla. Doing it a bit different, still figuring out how to compete, but full of promise and stealing the hearts of 'Murica.
