Lucca Staiger

I love when we single out players on our team and tear them down.

To the OP: Why don't you start a thread about every player. Right now we don't have a single player that is part of the solution. Brackins and Gilstrap are both black holes and force up a shot every time they touch the ball. Instead of kicking it out and around to work for a better shot, they force one up with 15 on the shot clock.

No kidding. Singling out one player is wrong

Gilstrap seems the only person on this team who wants to win. Ill admit I am a Mcdermott supporter, always have been, you wont hear me bash him for our losses. What we need to happen is to get Hamilton p***** off, the guy had ONE REBOUND last night and Craig needs to have more than four...

You're wrong. It's completely Lucca's fault we got blasted last night.
He wasn't forcing it up everytime he touched it like Brackins and Gilstrap were.
He was the only person not defending his guy.
He was the only person not rebounding.
He was the only person turning it over constantly.
He was the only person missing free throws.
He was the only person missing easy put-backs.

Uh, pot meet kettle?

Wait, Brackins and Gilstrap are a single player? Well son of a...

Lucca Staiger is far from the single reason we've lost the last three games. Every single player in some capacity is to blame based on their expected contributions to the team. Brackins and Gilstrap are the start of the issues, DG when he's taking three pointers is a huge issue, our entire defense is terrible, our entire team is awful at rebounding. I could go on for days about issues with this team unfortunately. :skeptical:

Duh, Brastrap is the ultimate player.

You'd better re-read your own post again - you used the word "players." Last I checked that's plural, meaning "more than one."

I love when we single out player on our team and tear them down.

So that's grammatically correct? ****. Dude, not shockingly, you're reaching for something that ain't there.

I guess anyone but the head coach, right? Whatever makes you feel better.

Doesn't matter who is in there. This offense stinks. The rebounding stinks.

BryceC had some good stats as to McD's teams and rebounding rankings (even while at UNI). I'd like to see those again.

That said, all it takes for me to be back on the bandwagon is NCAA tourney. Doesn't seem like too much to ask--1 NCAA in 4 years...

Reaching for something that's not there? Take a chill--that was you. First, you say you don't call people out. Then, you call 2 people out. Then, you get ****** when someone calls you on it.

I get it--you're emotionally invested in this coach, and you need to blame anyone but him and/or individual players. Yes, people are overly negative on here, but WTF do you expect? No matter what you think, it isn't the people on here that are losing games and coaching (thank the Lord!).

Anyway, losing pisses people off. Winning and working your tail off doesn't. I'm heading to the wrestling meet tonight and plan on losing my voice. Congrats to volleyball.

Go Clones!

No argument here. I think the root of it is Gmac's refusal to exert his authority as a coach - and to push his players out of their comfort zone to improve their game. He's grateful that Brackins decided to come back, grateful that Lucca came back, etc. To tell someone they've played a half-assed game or are giving a half-assed effort at practice is to risk having them angry...and Gmac doesn't want to risk that.

Again, you're making an *** outta you and me. The OP has an agenda where everything falls on one player, and Coach McDermott (fcmc...fire coach mc...think about it). I didn't call out a single player, I've called out the two biggest players, and the rest of the team. FAR cry from calling out a single player like the OP has a history with Lucca. It's borderline obsession.

You must love it because you just tore up Brackins and Gilstrap.

I think calling out Lucca is wrong, too. It isn't his fault the offense is based on standing at the three point line. I just saw Tornado's post quoted on your response, and it seemed a little strange that you attacked him.

Really--I know you're a big fan, and I get that. I just think that you need to understand that not everyone that says a negative thing about this coach and his style of play wants to see him fired or wants the Cyclones to lose. I'd love to see the Clones win. However, there is a pattern developing over the past 3 years that seems to be working again in year 4. And, it isn't a postseason type pattern. Thankfully, they still have most of the year to figure it out and get to the tourney. That's all it will take for ISU fans to be happy and buy tickets again. If this team doesn't make it to the tourney, look out ticket sales (and really, that's what matters).

The great Lucca Staiger did it again.
0 points.
We saw this last year in four Big 12 conference games.
And yet everyone keeps saying what a great player, and great part of this team he is.
He's absolutely unreliable and inconsistent.

We clearly have no inside game, on either side of the court. Getting outrebounded by 19 by anybody is just ridiculous. We get no position, and we have no hands. It's frustrating to watch...

This is why we can't get our shooters any looks. Until we give teams the need to respect our inside game we're not going to get open looks...

The reason Lucca Staiger gets called out individually is because of the hype we've been fed about him.
Mcdermott's entire 2nd reason was written off with the excuse that the NCaa screwed us. If only we'd had Lucca, if only we'd had Lucca.
Then when he finally does play, in Mcdermott's third season, he's generally horrible. And the team has another horrible season.
And now, this off-season, we're treated to all the consternation about will Lucca come back or won't he.
As if it possibly makes a difference to the team.
Unless you could count on him night in and night out to score points.
Which last night proves again, as it was proven over and over last season, you can't count on Lucca to help us.
Mcdermott's excuses got old to me a long time ago. I'm glad to see that the fact that he's been in over his head since day one is finally becoming clear to everyone.

I wouldn't put the blame on Lucca individually because the whole team sucked. I will point out Lucca's contribution to that debacle I wasted my time watching. He had zero points and he couldn't guard my grandmother. Getting it all off my chest I'd also have to say his perm looks gay. I'd spend a little less time at the beauty shop and a little more in the gym.

Pretty sure that Lucca wasn't the issue in last night's game. He played 22:37 during which Cal outscored us by 4. This comes out to -7.07 per 40 minutes. Hamilton played 21:20 during which Cal outscored us by 17. This is -31.85 per 40 minutes. Dendy's numbers are -34.28 per 40 minutes. This pretty much underscores Coach's post-game comments being that offensive rebounding lost this game and that our big men other than Gilstrap and Brackins need to work on their rebounding over the next 20 days. (He really said that the coaches need to work hard over the next 20 days, during which we only have 1 game, to turn the rebounding situation around so that we can play with big physical teams.)

Here are the entire +/- numbers for last nights games.

Staiger -7.07
Brackins -11.28
Gilstrap -11.61
Garrett -18.21
Christopherson -20.61
Hamilton -31.85
Dendy -34.28
Boozer -36.87

Did Dendy's postgame comments complaining about playing time annoy anyone else besides me? His play the last two games certainly doesn't point to deserving more playing time.
