ESPN essentially pulling the ultimate Denis Leary-style "Sorry - I ****ED UP!!!" by LHNing the game early in the year in their game preview:

http://www.espn.com/college-football/preview?gameId=401013046

Saturday's game between Texas and Iowa State at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was so lightly considered at the beginning of the season that ESPN relegated coverage to the Longhorn Network, in essence throwing a bone to the Texas fan base and leaving those that don't have access to that network in a bit of a lurch.

Instead of being a rote, end-of-season game, the dustup between the 15th-ranked Longhorns and the No. 16 Cyclones has real meaning, with the winner still in line for spot in the Big 12 championship game.

That scenario occurred only because Texas and Iowa State had played lights-out football for most of the season.

Has anybody heard anything for certain if the game will actually broadcast in Iowa? I heard that you can get the channel through Directv sports pack but the actual live game will be blacked out.

Frequent Reader, long time Cyclone Lover- I tried to get the DirectTV 5 day trial discount. Via chat, they denied me. I said thank you and left for DISH. Later, I emailed them my displeasure and was referred to a supervisor. I love DTV because I can watch many Cyclone games. Send a message!

I think I am going to go old school. Cook a good dinner, lay on the couch with food and beer, and listen to the radio broadcast. And rely on CF to tell me about the Big 12 officiating hose-jobs.

We could be up 20 points, but reading the gameday thread will lead you to believe we're losing.

ESPN owns LHN, just maybe they could have been creative this time only instead of ESPN on ABC to have LHN on ABC? Sort of like NFL Thursday Night Football where it’s on FOX and the NFL Network.

PS Vue has nothing to do with your local cable carrying LHN. Go to the website and it will ask you your location and I'm 99% sure it will say that you have it available by adding the sorts pack.

You can do this, man.
I figured out my mistake.

You have to subscribe for Core or above, and THEN add on the Sports pack for an additional $10.

It would seem odd for a game being played in Texas to be blacked out in Iowa.

Yes u can get it. Its channel 677. All u have to do is order the sports pack. U will pay like 12 bucks and u can have it removed for the next month.

I just did the PS Vue Core package and added the sports pack. One question for any of you that knows...I could not find the PS Vue app for my Samsung Smart TV. I had to go through Roku to get it. Am I doing something wrong or is it not available through the Samsung tv?

I complain regularly about how much we spend on DISH each month but I’m not complaining now- we have the LHN and are all set.

Back a few pages people were talking about DirecTV's loyalty group. A few months back I was coached up by a rep from the loyalty department. He told me that each billing cycle, every customer gets a new list of promo offers. How good they are depends on what promos you are currently on. So he told me if I wanted, I could call every time I pay my bill to see what new offers are available to me.

Like many of you, I called and asked to add the LHN, they offered me the same 3 months free of the SportsPack. They also told me to cancel my equipment protection package and offered me 12 months of free HBO.

All you have to do when you call general customer service line to say "cancel my DirecTV" when they ask what you are calling about and you will be transferred to the loyalty department. The people in that department have the highest power in the company to offer deals. They are all in America and easy to understand. I got to talking to one of them today and he said his role is to save customers money in any way possible, not to sell them things. Which is why he told me my equipment protection plan was pointless. Add it when I need it, cancel it when I don't. Hope this helps fellow DirecTV Subscribers.

Used this strategy and it worked! Called DirectV and said I want to cancel my service because it was getting too expensive. Was transferred to someone who was willing to reduce the price on just about everything AND give me the upgraded sports pack which includes LHN. End result: my monthly bill is going down and they added ALL movie channels, so my wife is good with the change.

My big mistake was letting my friends know I'll be able to get the game. Looks like I'm going to be hosting a "bring your own chair" event.

YAY ME!
I actually managed to do something computery!

I selected the free trial of PSvue, and we hooked my laptop up to the computer. Working like a charm; I have a diving competition on right now. Thanks to all that offered suggestions!

Also noticed that we get everything we currently get on mediacom (with the exception of WHO 13 - NBC), and for considerably cheaper. May be looking into making this more permanent.
