NBA: LeBron James wins MVP

I always liked Lebron when he was in Cleveland. The way that he left just didn't sit right with me and I really started to root against him. Then his theatrics of flopping and winking and flopping and grinning added to that dislike. But what really did it was when I found out why he changed his number from 23. He had played his entire career wearing 23 and all of a sudden he decided he wasn't worthy and, not only that, but nobody in the league should wear 23 ever again. Come to find out the Miami Heat retired Jordan's number years ago and Lebron literally COULDN'T wear 23 in South Beach. Also, where did he anounce that he was changing his number??? In Miami in a post-game interview. He knew at that time that he wasn't going to be a Cav the following year and couldn't even tell the Cavs' front office prior to "The Announcement". The guy just seems like a snake to me. I could be wrong on a personal level, but as an athlete I just don't like him.
He is the best player in the league right now and deserves this award, I just don't wish him any success in the future.

So you clearly read zero posts in this thread up to this point. Nobody in this thread has been arguing LeBron over Durant because of assists and steals, nobody.

They are arguing modern trendy stats like win shares and PER.

If you go by traditional stats it's pretty much a dead draw, it really is, unless you're an idiot.

Points, Rebounds (the two most high profile traditional stats) - Durant

Blocks - Durant

Steals, assists - LeBron in a major way

Their production is similar, all I'm saying is it's close. It's not the runaway slam dunk some people make it. Also you have to figure in a bit who wants to take over at the end of close games, and who wants to let Robin run the fourth quarter or join forces with the 2nd best post-Jordan closer. It's close, if Durant played for the Knicks or Lakers and had this kind of season with the Knicks or Lakers finishing high in the standings I'm 100% certain he'd be MVP. If he didn't get MVP it would be because he already won MVP last year.

Per 48 they both go to Lebron.

Well right now Miami has a big 2 as Bosh is now out indefinitely. Hate to see injuries but after seeing injuries screw my team over I'm not crying any tears for Miami. Come on PACERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the quote from David Stern the day after the MVP trophy was handed out saying, "I feel like we should be handing out Oscars instead of MVP trophies." I gained a ton of love for him when I heard that.

I'm pretty sure he did change it to 6 to honor Dr. J. But why after several seasons in the league? He has always wore 23. He wore it to HONOR Jordan. Why would he stop wearing 23?
The only thing that makes sense is that he knew he couldn't wear it in Miami so, in order to look like a classy dude, said he was changing his number because nobody should wear 23 ever again. Sounds to me like he didn't want any one wearing HIS #23. The typical "If I can't have it nobody should." That dude was probably standing underneath the very Jordan jersey in the rafters that was prohibiting him from carrying on his current number.
Most everyone else would have just changed their number at the end of the season and chalked it up to something that is out of their hands. Lebrondo tried to spin it to make it seem like instead of honoring Jordan by wearing 23 he was now going to honor him by NOT wearing 23. Seems like quite the epiphony to have this far along into your career. Total 180 degree change in philosophy.
