Lead story on ESPN, 2015 CFB Uni Watch

It might be bordering on too much, but I really dig San Diego State's full-Aztec look:

Completely agree with the last part and that ovcious. No recruit has said he chose a college for the unforms. 90% say it was due to relationships with coaches.

1) your stats are made up
2) I agree that recruits don't choose a school purely based on the uniform but they do matter.

I've posted these quotes twice before but it's applicable here since people STILL don't think recruits care.

“Everywhere I go across the state and nation, the No. 1 theme with recruits and fans is Baylor has the best unis,” Briles said.

While recruits choose football programs where they can best develop their athletic and academic potential, it doesn’t hurt to look good. A flashy uniform (or two or three or four) can help coaches sell the program.

“When you’re young, the first thing you’re going to look at is uniforms,” said Baylor sophomore receiver KD Cannon. “Some people feel you look good, you play good. I like (Baylor’s uniforms) because you don’t want to come out with the same old plain uniforms. We have a variety to choose from each and every game.”

It is 2015. Uniforms are HUGE. Anyone thinking otherwise is simply out of touch with athletes today. ISU is behind the curve here and it already has hurt us. But... I can see how ISU fans wouldn't want to change anything with all the recent success the program has had.

The fact of the matter is that kids are giving uniforms a seat at the table when it comes to choosing a school. Iowa State should be exploiting that and doing crazy things. I know it is stupid and incomprehensible to say that a team like Baylor (in football and basketball) wouldn't have had so much recent success without the crazy uniforms, but I think it is true. Fashion means a lot these days, and it starts out in high school.

Uniforms don't matter in recruiting and we don't want the types of kids who are swayed by cool uniforms.

Or better yet, who give a crap what ESPN thinks.

The kids playing the games care about what ESPN thinks. And as far as uniforms not getting us a recruit over Texas, Ohio State, etc...Right now we aren't trying to get recruits over those schools because we know 9/10 it isn't going to happen, but if those uniforms help us steal a recruit from one of those other mid level schools then that is a win. Too many players, recruits, coaches and ADs have gone on record talking about how new unis help in recruiting. To say differently is just saying you're going to argue just to argue.

I totally agree. Having flashy uniforms isn't going to win us recruiting battles over blue blood schools... we don't recruit against them anyway. Its the lower to mid P5 schools and top tier mid majors we are up against at the moment. If Ball freaking State can afford 6 different helmets...

I guess my point is this. Having alternate uni options, even crazy ones, does not HURT US IN ANY WAY! The only thing it could do is help. Why not at least try.

For the record, I do like our current uniforms and would keep them as a baseline for sure. Just some alternates for one or two games a year will not hurt us at all. There is no downside, only upside. I have no idea how much upside, but anything is better than nothing.

Apparently your reading comprehension skills are at a 2nd grade level? I am on the record to say that we should wear the Jack Trice throwbacks at least once a year when we are on national TV because the uniforms are unique to ISU, and more importantly tell a unique story that might get the attention of Black athletes in the South, where most of our recruits are, and where it is hardest to get a campus visit. The Trice throwbacks might make a kid give ISU a visit, and if they visit, our success rate is pretty high. I also am a big fan of the retro uniforms we wore against Iowa in 2008.

I am not a fan of having a new flavor of the week like MD or Oregon. In fact, I'd be embarrassed to suit up in the all Gold uniforms we wore last year or some of the crap MD wears. They looked like ****. We also do not have a Nike helping us out with the costs each week so we couldn't afford to have a new uniform or helmet each week if we wanted.

I also like the mock up of the Gold helmet, gold pants with red stripes, and Cardinal jersey someone put online. Jamie would need to evaluate the cost benefit of creating those and evaluate if taking away from our measly $200 k profit or taking funds away from say women's volleyball to pay for them. Tough decision for him without raising ticket prices.

And for for each school that shows new uniforms being the in thing, I can show you a K State, Auburn, USC, TN etc that doesn't attract new recruits because of uniform changes. Kid after kid that signs at ISU says they come here for the facilities and the Family atmosphere, which is why I say we are much closer in identity to K State than Baylor.

If if you are talking the uniforms mentioned above or one alternate colored helmet then I'm cool with that. Emulating Maryland or Oregon, no, because they look like horse **** if you ask me.

Funny how people keep telling themselves that uniforms don't matter when every year this site sees dozens of uniform threads discussing uniforms of virtually every other school and pro team, not to mention mock ups for what our uniforms should be. In reality, people who continuously say that uniforms don't matter and rip people for discussing them are simply using a coping mechanism to deal with how bland and unimaginative our uniforms are. Nobody wants to go full paintball, but how about something unique - something not so "yawn"? It's why I like the gold jersey - it's not the greatest jersey in the world, but it at least changes things up.

Personally, I like the mock up that's been posted around here often where instead of the three stripes go up and over the shoulder they go up the side of the shoulder. With that look you can also have the "Jack Trice inspired alternate" where the 5 stripes take up the entire lower shoulder panel.

I'm kind of meh about the gold helmet unless it's done right (and I really haven't seen a mock up that I really like), but I'd kill for that white helmet.

And I know a few people will roll their eyes, but I'd love to see gunmetal or charcoal uniforms. Yeah, gray isn't a school color, but neither is white, and gray is just as much of a "neutral" color as white is. And all you have to do is look at ISU merchandise already done on Nike's anthracite gray color to realize ISU's cardinal and gold simply pop on that color.

You can find better uniform designs on the internet made by some fans than Nike comes up with. The AD is bound by contract to Nike, so I would think they have to use their designers.

I don't necessarily know how it works, but if we were willing to pay Nike to develop a template, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to create unique uniforms for us. I can't imagine there'd be that much additional cost once the template was developed. Plus, if it's a good template, you can open it up for smaller schools to use.

I'm sure they can strongly suggest what they want in a uniform and it wouldn't fall on deaf ears. Nike doesn't dictate what every schools uniform looks like.

That's the "alternate" I was referring to.

It could be a good alternate, but imo it would also make a great base uniform. It's modern looking but also pretty basic, and would be completely unique and identifiable with ISU. It ties in with our stadium name and Jack Trice story. Props to whoever made this mockup and I think the athletic department is missing a great opportunity if they don't look into this. Our current jersey is one of the few I have never bought but I'd buy this one in a heartbeat.
