Am considering Lasik surgery and was wondering the costs and preferred places to get this done. Also and good or bad experiences would help me make a decision.

I think it will depend on where you live. But from a reputable high quality eye surgeon you are looking at around 1500-1750 an eye.

I'd really love to have this done, but have an eye problem that prevents it. Life without contacts is a real dream for me.

Must be nice I can't get lasik and I can't wear contacts anymore either. I would love being able to just go back to contacts. But there is a new treatment out that they implant a lens into your eye still pretty expensive, but once the price comes down I will be doing it.

You know you might be surprised on the contact front. They've made some big advance in that field in the last 10 years. U of I Opthamology department is one of the best in the county. P.M. me if you want to talk more.

You get what you pay for.... so go cheap. That was the advice from my friend who operates lasik;) Standard price is 1500-2000 an eye.

I think I paid about $3,800 and I did it at Wolfe Clinic in WDM. Had it done in January and I have no complaints. I wore contacts for almost 25 years. I used part of my HSA since I never go to the doctor and did the rest through FSA.

Dr. Sindt at U of I is as good as it gets if you need contacts. I couldn't have lasik and neither soft contacts, nor glasses gave me decent visual acuity. (mild case of keratoconus). I'm currently piggybacking hard contacts on soft contact and am 20/20.

My issue is the dryness of my eyes. My doctor mentioned something about being able to put plugs in so my tears don't drain from my eye as quickly. But he said he wasn't sure if it would work.

She's my doctor and I agree!

You know I use drops during the day. Blink and Clean.

I also have been eating flax seed meal with my oat meal in the morning and it has a lot of Omega 3 oils. One side benefit is it's supposed to help with dry eye(It helps with the oil film on your eye which holds moisture in). I really think it's helped my dry eye since I started eating it.

Has anyone heard about the European eyedrops that counteract cataracts? I know two people who avoided lens transplants using the eyedrops.

I had it in July 1999 and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I couldn't wear contacts because of dry eyes and I had some issues during the recovery based on that, but absolutely no regrets.

I had it done in Cedar Rapids at Wolfe clinic. I think it was around $1,600 per eye but I don't really remember for sure

My wife had these in for a while. They both ended up coming out after a while and now she justs uses drops. Hers were so bad that she actually scratched her cornea. I could see the scratches from a couple of feet away. She then went in and got her cornea's scraped :arghh:and she can see much better.

As far as the Lasic, I'm happy with the results and I'd do it again in a second but I don't get all excited over it like everyone else. Wearing disposable contacts that I didn't take out for a month wasn't that big of deal for me.

I got it done at LasikPlus in WDM last July. Payed about $1000 less that I would've at Wolfe but it is arguable whether the savings was worth it.

I needed two surgeries 10 months apart. Second one was free and they did a great job of making sure I was a satisfied customer, but the second surgery was a pretty significant inconvenience. Can't fault their efforts to get it right in the end but I wonder sometimes if I would've needed it done twice somewhere else. Who knows.

One year later I am completely happy with the result, it was just a little more drawn out than anticipated.

I had mine done here 2+ years ago for $499 an eye, I was -2.75 in each eye with an astigmatism, 24 hours later I checked in at 20/15 in the left eye and 20/20 in the right eye. I had no halo effects or any telling side effects for that matter, I would recommend this to anyone that is an eligible candidate.

Edit:

Forgot to put the link in. I agree cheaper isn't better but I took appointments at 3 different places prior to choosing and I liked the cheapest option the best. The technology is fairly advanced now and most places are using the same equipment along with having Doctors that have many surgeries under their belt now, it also helps do what you are now and talk to people that have had the procedure along with checking out the companies/Doctors that you are interested in via google and seeing if you can find out any other boards where people have talked about them.
