Instead of having this discussion in various threads, I thought we could have just one thread. So who gives us the best shot to win games? Would starting Park somehow open up the running game?

Park saw most of his playing time against backups and he wasn't being pressured like Lanning was, so it's hard to give a fair comparison of who looked better tonight. Personally, I liked what I saw from Park and I want to see how he handles certain situations and how he plays in a full game. His arm strength looked good and he put nice touch on the ball. His accuracy may not look good on paper, but there were 3 completed passes (for nearly 50 yards) that were called back. The 36 yard pass to Lazard was impressive. I like how comfortable Park looked in there, especially for a kid who hasn't played in a game in 3 years. I think Park did enough to earn more PT next week, but does he deserve to start? Eh, I'm not sure about that. Lanning is more experienced, but on the other hand he is just playing really bad. He holds on to the ball too long and misses far too many open passes. His decision making is often questionable as well.

When Park was in the game I at least felt like we had the chance to convert on 3rd down. With Lanning in I typically give up after 2nd down. IIRC correctly ISU was 0-10 on 3rd down conversions in the first half.

I also had the sense that we at least had the chance to recover from an offensive penalty with Park in the game.

Park was pressured as well in my opinion, and he took a sack or two, but I think he showed a good ability to move away from the pressure a few times while keeping his eyes down field. The real difference is that he looked very accurate compared to Lanning IMO. I don't recall seeing as many errant passes, especially not to wide open receivers.

All of that said, this team won't start winning games with Park in there. Our line play will kill us every week. But I liked what I saw of Park, enough to sit Lanning.

Run it like Texas.

Park throws and lanning does the draws and reads on obvious running downs.

Except when teams see lanning come in, they'd probably stack the box with 5 guys and shut down our high octane running threat....

Being an Ankeny guy I was really routing for JL. But 7 quarters of FB has shown me enough. Lanning is wildly un accurate and can't make the 2nd level throw with out it being batted down or intercepted. He can throw bombs and run, that's it.

The worst part is he doesn't have a good handle on his capabilities. He bypasses easier plays to overthrow a guy in triple coverage.

Landing cannot throw a touch pass. He's missed almost all of his throws to the flat. I'd think Lanning still starts next week but Park plays as well. Can you bench your starting QB 3 games in who is a captain?

It's still Lanning's job. Park looked decent when he threw on the run, but teams will just force their DE up the field and keep him contained and the O-lne is just too sloppy to give any QB a shot right now IMO. For now I think it's still Lanning. We played two ball control style teams where we obviously don't have the running game to keep up. Whar Warren btw?

I'm a slight lean towards Park at this point. Based off last night, he had a better, more accurate arm, but Lanning is the better runner. Whichever QB we decide to go with, it needs to be our QB going forward the next two years. I'm not in favor of mind ******* our QB's out of success like CPR did every year.

JL right now has zero touch on short passes and isn't going thru his progressions..JL is a running QB who should be used like Klein accept we are trying to use him like Tom Brady..

Stop trying to run the football ove tackle and up the gut and Start a QB that has thrown 10x the passes in his career. in HS JL was a running QB..Park was an Army All AMerican..Park isnt' a 5 star QB but he knows how to QB better than JL. I don't care if Iowa had scrubs in what I saw was a QB that went thru his progressions and had better touch on the football..Easy decision if you want to win games.

QV play isn't about running. It's about good feet in the pocket, sliding and extending plays. Lanning is a fullback with a strong arm. As "good" as Lanning is running it, he is really bad in the pocket, often runs right into the pressure and rarely extends plays. We have nothing to lose. Park has to be the guy. Not because we're panicking but because Lanning just isn't a Big 12 QB.

Lanning has not played well.

Interesting stat that Lanning has 24 carries for 37 yards this season.

Our 3 RB's have a total of 34 carries for 107 yards this season.

Lanning has not done well with the Zone Read. And his passing has been pretty bad.
