He played great, but the game plan made it simple for him. We broke 4 screen passers for long gains and we caught 3 "jump" balls l for him. Those are plays out receivers had not been making, until today. It was a great offensive game plan more than anything, and we'll executed by Kempt. Reminded me of what Iowa usually asks if their QB's with a lot of single read plays and a lot of mis direction swing passes. They should have done more of that against Texas, but trusted Park to beat them in his own.

Agree completely. But I'll say this, he never lost his cool and never let the pressure of the moment get to him.
"Jump" balls that were perfectly placed is the major reason that they were caught. Also the swing passes were put in a the correct place where the receiver didn't have to slow down or stop which allowed them to make the big plays.
Super impressed with Kempt, he isn't as talented as Park but he does some things better. He seemed more comfortable in the pocket. It also didn't appear that they limited the offense much, we even ran a few new things or atleast ran them a little different.
Will be interested to see if Lincoln Riley keeps Stoops after this season. OU was way to passive on defense and IMO there is no reason OU shouldn't be playing a physical 4-3 or a 3-4 with bigger LB's.
That said, ISU coaching staff and players deserve tremendous credit. They went with a pretty conservative game plan and in the second half were able to turn basic plays into big plays. Kempt was great because he was accurate. He obviously doesn't have Park's gun for an arm, but he was very accurate today and didn't make any mistakes.

Feel very happy for seniors like Lazard, Campos, Garcia, Ryen, Waggoner, Trent, Lanning, Cotton-Moya, etc who have gone through a bit of a roller coaster ride while at ISU. They have come close a number of time and couldn't get the win.

This 100%. How many balls did Park throw out of bounds last week down the field? Not bashing Jacob at all as he played fantastic football up until last week, but playing QB in a spread offense is usually as simple as throwing quick short passes to your guys and also giving your 6'6" receivers a shot down the field to make a play. Yes, the gameplay was simple and made it easy on Kempt, but he just freaking beat Oklahoma on the road.
Shrinking the playbook was a blessing in disguise. They proved they can run the ball and that combined with short passing game kept the ball moving and the OU defense on the field.
He spun those two housed swing passes in there perfectly.
Maybe you already know but he spent two years at Oregon St, one as a RS, then a year at Hutchinson CC before coming to ISU last year so only had to wait a little over a year but still... impressed he came in and was ready to go.
Something about "keeps his head down, never complains". Giving Kempt a standard 'he deserves it' compliment, but yeah, can read into it...does Park complain?, etc.
Hope they can all work together, like Montgomery/Warren apparently do. Tougher if Kempt is "supposed to be" transfer/back up and Park thinks he has 2 yrs to make NFL.

It should cause one, but not for the reason of talent. It forced the coaches to call a game ISU should have been playing for the last 10 years!
I am so happpy for Kyle. He is a great kid. I've gotten to know him the last 2 years. He dates my niece and we bs and talk ISU during family gatherings. Quiet, calm, positive and confident.
While he doesn't bring the hype & upside as some others I think he limits the downside. Like an Alex Smith.

I agree. It just sounded like you thought he'd been at ISU the whole time. Just adding clarification.
The thing that Kempt has that I haven't seen in years at ISU, is a QB with touch. Seems like all of our quarterbacks wanna throw the ball as hard as they can. Now we can't sit here and say he is better then Park after this performance but what u can say is that we can at least be confident in Kempt leading this team going forward.
