I only remember K & G exists when I randomly see it in weird places if in Iowa.

What's more remarkeable is there's still apparently a Blimpie subs shop which iirc used to be in K & Gs.

RE:Kwik Trip/Star: they're popping up everywhere in WI and in some ways it makes me cringe a bit as the newer versions tend to be mega-built in the middle of quieter towns.

But locally they've appeared to retain their employees over the years and the employees seem way more competent/content than say Casey's so they must be a decent spot to work. Good coffee and after a camping trip with limits on food their breakfast sandwiches hit the spot.

Kum & Go has always been a place that it seemed like the employees genuinely enjoyed where they worked, and from what I understand, they also get some pretty good benefits.

Wonder how that's going to change now that a faceless "investment group" will own the stores and just be focused on squeezing the most profit they can out of them?
How is this a faceless group?

Do you think that the Krause family didn't try to squeeze every penny of profit? They were so focused on profit, they sold it.

The mortgage he has to carry on his building made selling K&G inevitable. Besides, Kyle was more interested In his Italian vineyard anyway.
Not true on the mortgage. True on the vineyard.

I like them both. However, I always feel like the Kwik Star cashier is going to jump the counter and give me a hug....a little over the top for me. And, no I don't want a cookie or a banana.

Yours offers you something healthy?

The one I go in seems to pick the unhealthiest in-house made product and pushes it.

'Would you like a 2 lb sugar frosted fudge cream injected butter donut for the road?'

From the DSM Business Record:

"Krause seeking more public funding for Des Moines Soccer Stadium
Des Moines Register: Trying to fill a funding gap for the downtown soccer stadium he has long envisioned, Krause Group CEO Kyle Krause has met with city and county officials over the last two weeks to lobby for more public funding. Krause, whose family launched the Kum & Go convenience store chain, told local officials that his company needs tens of millions of dollars more to finish the project. The request comes after the Polk County Board of Supervisors approved up to $7 million for the project in April 2021 and the state agreed to provide $23.5 million. In addition, the city has agreed to provide an incentive package worth an undetermined amount. Polk County Administrator John Norris and Des Moines City Council members Carl Voss and Josh Mandelbaum confirmed that Krause has asked Des Moines leaders to increase the incentives. The City Council would need to approve any final agreement for the planned 6,300-seat stadium, which Krause agreed to build as a condition of being awarded a franchise for a USL Championship league pro soccer team."

I thought the dude was wealthy? Looks like he's been approved for over $30M of taxpayer dollars to fund his hobby and the related stadium investment he will own for his own benefit. But he apparently needs tens of millions more?
