KState pregame thread

I rewatched last year's game. We recovered two fumbles in the first half. I also noticed they were letting pass interference go without penalty over and over, both sides really. But then in the 2nd quarter, we had a 3rd down pass to Stevo and they called PI. It was really far less interference than what they had been letting go all game. We marched down for a TD from there. We blocked a FG attempt later. That stupid Avery Johnson safety. Just a lot of things that worked out our way. It definitely looked like our home field advantage affected K State that night.

All in all, these two programs are evenly matched and it again will likely be determined by someone making a big play, a turnover, a special teams play. I guess in my head I think we are better than they are. But after watching that game again, they are right there with us. And I checked, that danged tight end is just a junior this year. Somebody cover him!!!!

It’s a law of physics that KSU has a white TE from the Midwest who absolutely torches us.

Linebackers are gonna be big in this game and I can’t wait to see them because it was so frustrating last year.

I went back and watched the K-State game from last year just to get a feel of things. K-State was the better team on offense for 3 of the 4 quarters. We were very fortunate with 2 K-State fumbles and the blocked FG to keep them off the scoreboard.

As others have mentioned, we will certainly run the ball over and over for little gain. We really didn’t run the ball all that well last year against KSU either

Like it is every year against these guys, whatever team doesn't the ball over and is clean on special teams will win the game. I think it’s that simple

We need to get Johnson into long yardage situations then find a way to get pressure. He will force things and make mistakes. I think we win because we have a better QB. Rocco will take another step forward this year with fewer bad picks and a higher completion %.

I’m not a fan of the Big 12 poo bahs decision to have two of the potential conference champions playing the first game over seas. Obviously, the TV exposure in week 0 was the selling point but one of these teams will have a demoralizing long plane ride home. I hope we pull it off but CMC’s history is not encouraging in early games. Same thing goes for #1 Texas @ #3 Ohio State in the same scenario with Ohio State favored. A one point win in Ireland is good enough for me.
I think there's a big difference between a conference game and a non-con game. I agree starting off with a conference game is a poor choice. But in CFB its good to have a mix-up of similar relative strength teams in various P4 conferences play each other. Texas/OSU is a blockbuster game but doesn’t actually tell us much about the relative quality of the conferences. I'd like to see more games between middle-of-the-pack P4 teams during non-con. It helps with seeding the playoffs and determining at large teams.

The Cy-Hawk game is actually really good for this as both are usually top-half conference teams. Its a little weird because its a rivalry. But what if ISU played Wisconsin/Illinois/Minnesota, Louisville/GaTech/Miami, and Mizzou/Ole Miss/SoCar in the non-con? And every other P4 team scheduled similarly? Then we'd ACTUALLY have a decent idea year-to-year who deserves the at large bids and a 5&11 model makes a ton of sense.

The thing that makes me the most nervous is Jayce Brown vs Coop. Brown demolished him last year.
He was stuck 1-on-1 with him primarily though with no help from the other safeties because they had to run support so heavy to cover for our linebacker issues. Won’t find himself in the same spots this year against K-State

K State used picks to delay Cooper. Nearly impossible to stay with someone when you get picked. Refs just don't call that penalty often. I've often thought we should do more of that on offense because it has to be a blatant effort or the refs just let it go.
