KState pregame thread

I agree with this. I am cautiously optimistic that we can be just as good or better offensively but I do think people are undervaluing just how good Noel and Higgins were last year and how valuable those Chuck plays are on an offense.

Knowing you don’t have to slog out 9-10 play drives every possession is so important to an offense. At that point you are playing into what the defense wants. I am optimistic our new guys can provide that explosive ability.

I think of the Utah game. They couldn’t stay in front of Jayden. By the second half we just looked his way and got a 15 yd PI. The Baylor game had big chunk plays to both of them sparked the comeback.
I don't think this guy had any eligibility left last year.

I really hope that isn't the case, because for this team to take the next step I truly believe it needs to be able to wear down defenses and salt games away with a consistent running game.

In addition, there are some potentially great QBs in this league right now. Those QBs can't hurt you while they are sitting on the bench watching 8+ minute ISU scoring drives. Also, star QBs often get impatient and try to do too much when they see game minutes slipping away and they haven't gotten the chance to make the impact like they are accustomed to. I think a lot of mistakes happen when it is midway though the second quarter and a QB is only working with their second possession. Patience is rarer than many think with star QBs.
I get where you are coming from, but this team won 11 games last year with being more of a pass first offense. Now, having 2 great weapons on the outside helps, but i just don't foresee that completely changing just because Higgins and Noel are gone. Obviously, they don't have two superstars that we are aware of yet, but i feel like this offense could have a higher floor passing wise. obviously still a lot of unknowns though

No one said anything about the run game being diminished or ignored.

Both can kick it up a notch. Or two, and I’d be fine with that.
Neither did I.

I'm just saying that if Rocco is throwing for 500 to 1000 more yards with Campbell at the helm it probably means we can't dominate in the run game. I really believe if he could win games throwing 1 or 2 passes a series he would. Why put the ball at risk by throwing it more when you can consistently get 5 yards a carry and move the chains? I think Matt really thinks that way.

Not suggesting that would completely change. I wasn't the one suggesting that Rocco's passing yards drastically change this year.

Funny, made me think of a Woody Hayes quote.

K State OL is one of their weakest position groups. Get pressure. Get Turnovers. Make Touchdowns.
Wow, I watched College Football Today last night on ESPN. They discussed this game a few minutes and said that K State felt their OL was the strongest unit they have had. So apparently at least someone at K State feels the OL is good.

I’m not a fan of the Big 12 poo bahs decision to have two of the potential conference champions playing the first game over seas. Obviously, the TV exposure in week 0 was the selling point but one of these teams will have a demoralizing long plane ride home. I hope we pull it off but CMC’s history is not encouraging in early games. Same thing goes for #1 Texas @ #3 Ohio State in the same scenario with Ohio State favored. A one point win in Ireland is good enough for me.

K State has two returning starters on OL.

I’m not saying the group will be terrible, just maybe not as solid as advertised.

The Center was 2nd team All Big 12…yet he ranked in the lower half of all Centers in 2024. But he’s supposed to be their best.

The other guy, a guard ranked in the 140’s for NCAA guards.

So we shall see how those two fare with the 3 new starters who have not had a lot of game minutes.

Honestly, their OL wasn’t great last year. DJ Giddens was just that good

Sounds like transfers might take couple spots. The LT they thought may start is out with an injury/illness to start the season I believe.

I believe it’s two transfers (one from Ohio State) and a back up from last year. But the 3 haven’t played much at all.

The two returning starters, who according to metrics, are sus.

So I will go back to my OP.

Get pressure, Get Turnovers, Make Touchdowns.

Their DL is good

Their LB’s are very very good.

So all of you that LOVE when we run ip the middle into a brick wall on 1st and 10 over and over again….be prepared.

Their secondary is gettable as long as they don’t get too much pressure up front, which doesn’t seem likely.

This looks to be Rocco’s game to win.

Go into Dublin, get the W, come home. That’s the goal.

For the first time in a very long time, I’m going into the season with minimal knowledge of the team as it currently exists (I decided to stop paying attention until the first game is played after the way NIL has turned into a mess), but cautiously optimistic with the pieces we get back this year.

I feel like they are going to be tough to run against, but we’ll keep trying. You can’t get one dimensional against them or Iowa. We’ll grind out yards and people will complain that we’re being too conservative. But eventually I think that they’ll wear down and we’ll pop one or hit them with play action.

Their WR torched us last year, so that’s a concern. I think that their RB is super fast in the open field, but he’s no Giddens between the tackles. Pretty much shade to that WR, gang tackle the RB and keep a spy on the QB. I have a feeling this is going to be a Lovett game.
