I love Klatt's "please keep me employed" takes.
I still think ISU has the personnel to beat any of those teams. No one that lost last week was going to give OU a run for the title anyway. It's basically Texas and OSU along with OU at the top.
I hope that’s the only issue.I still think ISU has the personnel to beat any of those teams.
Just don’t have the consistency.

Klatt is one of the best in the business, I don't think he is worried about employment.
He's right, it was a disappointing showing, but freaking out over one week of results is over-reacting. Iowa State and K-State faced tough opponents and lost, while Kansas was busy being Kansas. The top 3 teams should all be good, with a drop off after that, just like any conference.
Dropped passes, injuries, missing targets, garbage special teams, throw in a couple of momentum building pass interference calls that were missed...not good. But again, when has a CMC team ever started a season ready...might be my greatest issue with the guy. Let's see how the TCU game goes before we bury the body.My optimistic take: Missing Kolar hurt a lot. Instead of drops that killed drives early, Purdy could have possibly sustained some drives and countered some of that momentum that UL built before it snowballed out of control. It wouldn't offset the other issues, but it would likely have changed our responses to some of the setbacks.
My unproven and probably stupid theory: Early on, I think in games were there wasn't a lot of separation between the two teams, away teams may have had a slight advantage. Everyone has been bottled up at home, so getting the chance to change scenery has to be a breath of fresh air. Also, a home team that walks out into their home stadium without any of their normal fan craziness has to mess with their minds a little bit.
Agree. But all the talk about Iowa State being a league contender has stopped after week one. Haven't heard one talking head, including Klatt, mention Iowa State as having a shot.
