NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Probably a billion people watch the Super Bowl and causally follow the NFL. I don’t have a team that I cheer for like I do with college. It’s really simple.
Casually following is still caring to a degree. I don’t get into the NFL like I used to, but wouldn’t not say I don’t care for it one bit at all.

College sports is awful. Horrible product and if I want to watch people getting paid it's going to be the best of the best. I haven't given a **** about ISU sports in a long time

We found out that Mahomes played terrible. He choked. He had a couple interceptions overturned so it could have been worse. In the previous two SB wins he lucked out with narrow wins. Mahomes could be looking at three SB losses in a row. And he can’t carry a team by himself since he did not do it last night. Mahomes Mountain has erupted.

Those early hits clearly shook him up. The protection was never good, but I also don't think it was a bad as he made it look. He was bailing out of the pocket the moment the ball was snapped.

I think Kelce's regression has hurt more than anything. Brady had so much of his success because he could get the ball out quick to Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, Welker, etc. They had some guys that could stretch the field, but there was always a viable quick option. Just didn't feel like Mahommes has that luxury right now.

At least the college football championship game was competitive

This Super Bowl was a horrible product. If I want to watch one team not belonging in the field with the other, I’d watch high school

The college playoffs were a ******* joke. Most of the games were blowouts. It's just a completely inferior product at this point. The flow of college basketball is so awful I can't even watch a game

1st rule of football is you have to protect the QB, KC did not do that last night and Mahomes, as great as he is, started to get happy feet and missing throws.
Its been my problem with the ISU defense, we do the opposite and put no pressure on the QB and let him get into a rhythm and then get picked apart.
The Eagles were not blitzing, just 4 guys rushing, stunting and twisting now and then, staying in their rush lanes and the offensive line just could not block them.

Time to rebuild the offensive line, its by far the weakness of the team.

They need to retool the OLine but they are already better next year having a healthy Rice and Pacheco. They lost the super bowl ffs. I have no reason to think Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson beat them next year. If I had to guess it will be another Philly-KC superbowl. Who in the NFC is taking them out? Maybe KC moves up and takes the Penn State tight end.

The Eagles return most of their team, only 18 FA, so they have to be the pick coming out of the NFC next season.

I also think there’s a difference between being up that you don’t care when someone basically asks or if it is relevant in some way and going into a thread to say that the topic is stupid and that you don’t care.

It was almost the worst of both worlds.

Once it became clear that it was almost definitely going to be an Eagles win I was cheering for a shutout because apparently that’s never happened in a Super Bowl. Instead we just got a game that was never close

Will agree with you on the first part.

Well let's talk offseason. Chiefs have a number of free agents to make decisions on

Updated look at Kansas City Chiefs’ pending free agents for 2025
Here's a full list of the Chiefs' pending free agents (according to Spotrac)
CB
Nazeeh Johnson
DE
Charles Omenihu
Tershawn Wharton
Malik Herring
DT
Derrick Nnadi
Mike Pennel
Marlon Tuipulotu
G
Mike Caliendo
Trey Smith
LB
Nick Bolton
Jack Cochrane
LS
James Winchester
LT
DJ Humphries
OLB
Josh Uche
QB
Carson Wentz
RB
Samaje Perine
Kareem Hunt
S
Justin Reid
WR
DeAndre Hopkins
Marquise Brown
Justin Watson
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Mecole Hardman

OL is going to be a priority and losing Smith would hurt. Right now LT is the black hole, can't do much about Taylor at RT with that contract so it is what it is but could be looking to fill 2 spots on the OL if Smith gets signed away.

At WR only Worthy, Rice, Moore, and Remigio are signed for next season, maybe they are able to bring back 1 or more of the guys on a reasonable 1 year deal. Bolton, Reid, and several of the DL guys are another area if you don't resign some of them will need to go looking for some depth signings there. RB is another spot too if both Hunt and Perine move on.

I think we are also at the point of possibly looking to use a draft pick to find Kelce's eventual replacement if the right guy is available. Not sure what the cap space is looking like but there could be a lot of roster spots needing to be filled with as many key guys that could potentially leave.

The defensive line is going to take a hit, way too many that are going to want to get paid. Bolton is gone, Chiefs just cannot afford to keep him around for what he wants. Sign Brown if possible, let the rest walk. Try to get Reid locked up also. The offseason should be about rebuilding the offensive and defensive lines, and then plug in people to fill the gaps. See if either back is willing to return on a team friendly deal.

Got to let Trey walk IMO. Can't have 100% of your line salaries tied up on your interior 3 when your tackles are so bad.

Bring back one of the WR, couple of the DE's.

Torn on Bolton, think he doesn't get nearly as much on open market as most think.

Draft probably needs to focus on either line and a LB.

Need to continue to hit on the draft. Eagles killed it last two drafts with Carter, Smith, Mitchell & DeJean in the first 2 rounds. That draft class going to do them lot of favors going forward.
