NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

This pretty much says Mahomes isn’t going to be back right away to start the season.
Not necessarily, everything I have read is Mahomes is on track to be back for the first game, KC needed a backup as the guy last year signed somewhere else, so we upgraded and the Jets are paying most of his salary. Chiefs are only paying $3 million of the $10 million he is owed.

Mahomes may be ready for week 1, but he might not be able to play any preseason games. They need someone to take snaps and Chris Oladokun and some guy named Jake Heaner ain't going to cut it.

Yeah I don't think we know if Mahomes will be ready for week 1 or not, but signing Fields gives them a decent backup option if he isn't. They have a chance to win early season games without Mahomes and not just end up like they did at the end of last season. (I don't believe they intentionally tried to tank the end of the season. Oladokun did decently okay considering the situation he was thrown into,) but there is no way you go into the beginning of next season without some sort of security blanket in case Mahomes is not ready week one. I also think they could use Fields in some special plays during the regular season. Mahomes won't QB sneak but if you put in Fields on short yard plays it opens up some options. I think the signing of Demercado also will be good for 3rd down and short options and Kareem Hunt is gone.

Fields is a decent backup QB option considering who is available in free agency that isn't really any better and could cost a bit more $ to sign too. It would not surprise me if Mahomes is ready for Week 1 as he sure seems to be able to rehab injuries faster than most players do, but if he isn't ready Field is capable of holding things down in the short term.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN believes Chiefs want to draft Reuben Bain. He was a monster all year, seemed like it was impossible to not notice him watching Miami. He's another guy who had a past auto accident that killed a civilian. Was cited with reckless driving but later dropped so maybe not as serious as Rashee Rice incident in terms of character worries. Not knowing his character I would like this pick from a football standpoint. I would prefer not to draft Tyson with our first pick and mauigoa otherwise think there's a lot of players I can get behind. Picks 3-8 are going to be more unpredictable so could depend on who's available.

If Bain is there at nine, that is your pick, they need a rush end to take pressure off of Jones and the other side. Would love for Boston to be there when they pick again at 29. Getting two of the larger pressing needs in the first round and then at pick 40 best of what is left.

There's worry that Saints at 8 could take him. I agree if he's available you take him. I don't think you trade up though

Some talk out there of the Chiefs moving up to #3 giving up both #9 and #29 to get there. I think they would also have to give up something more than that. But at three or even six you are going to get one of the better rush ends. QB from Indiana is going one, and someone will take Love before the Chiefs draft, so that means six picks out there before KC chooses, its very possible all three rush ends are gone, but then one of the better WR's should be there, or you could forget about need and take the safety from OSU. Many think he is the best player in the draft.

Who would be worth them trading up to 3rd to get?

With needs chiefs have I wouldn't endorse that type of deal.

They would take the rush end out of TT or the kid out of Ohio State. Bailey would be my choice, more of a sure thing, but the kid out of OSU has a higher ceiling, but played more LB than rush end, only about a 100 snaps rushing the passer. Picking at three you are going to get either Bailey or Reese.

Totally depends, if you can get pick three by trading 9 and 29, but keeping 40, I would do it. Not sure if the Cardinals would, but they need a lot, so they might. Getting Bailey or Reese solves one major problem, at 40 you could go a lot of ways, WR, DT or best corner. The thinking being you will get a TE in the 3rd or 4th round.

No one for KC. They need as many picks as they can to get a talent infusion. I'd rather they do the trade of swapping both KC's #1s for Dallas's two 1's. I think they can get better overall talent with 12 & 20 than 9 and 29.
And honestly they probably have every right to try and snag that #92 as well if they do that trade

I think the Chiefs are sitting at a nice spot at #9 really. Could go a number of different ways or even trade down a few spots possibly if a guy they wanted is no there. No harm in picking up an extra pick or 2 and moving down to get a guy you still want that would be available. I could see the Chiefs going DB, Edge, or WR at 9 depending on who is there. Heard a take this morning about do the Chiefs really want to invest another 1st rounder on a WR given how their WR picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds in recent years have not really panned out other than Rice and even he has had issues. Worthy hasn't exactly lived up to his hype either. Same show mentioned Tyreek Hill is still a free agent and could take a chance on him with a cheap deal and use the pick on another need.

Another possibility if they traded down a few spots is go TE to get your Kelce replacement with Sadiq. He could go somewhere in the 10-20 pick range depending on how things play out and if there is some team out there that really wants to trade up to get him in that range too.

It sounds like Jets at 2 are for sure taking Bailey

If we did this and somehow ended up with Downs at 12 and Sadiq at 20 it would be a home run (in my eyes). I think both go earlier than those two spots though.

If both those things happen, several NFL GM's should be fired lol

Most drafts have both Downs and Sadiq off the boards before those picks. Cincy will take Downs at 10 if he is there, to help their defense, and Sadiq be gone by 17 or so. If you do the trade with the Cowboys you would need to forget about Downs and take Sadiq at 12, which would be high, but then take a rush end at 20 in my opinion.

I have some breaking news for you...
