So watching this guys Senior highlight tape....

Kamari Syrie - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl

This kid goes from zero to knocking your head off in about 2 steps and he's not a big guy yet. It appears that blocking him is not a fun assignment and he'll punish you if you try. His team wasn't that good this year. Maybe that hurt his recruiting?

Anyone else know what the knock on this kid is because he looks better than a 2 star recruit in that video. I see on ESPN they rate him as more of a run stopper, lacking ball skills but then they rate him high on instincts. To me, as a guy that was a D Back, a lot of ball skills are instinct. You kind of have to feel the play developing. Get him on a college weight program and look out. This kid is going to hurt someone.

It could be lack of knowledge. They might not have seen much on him to rank him on anything besides stats

Wow, that's one of the best defensive highlights I've seen. I'm not sure what his "weakness" is but that dude needs to be in Cardinal and Gold.

Looks like a great candidate to play nickel. Doubt he has the frame to grow into a full size LB.

Wow! He doesn't seem to have any trouble figuring out who has the ball in the zone read. The 2 plays where he hurdles the running back trying to block him low and then getting the sack is very impressive.

obviously they're only going to show his best plays in a highlight video, but I love his instincts in run defense and how he fights through blocks. Listed at 5'11 190lbs. I'd love to see Yancy get a hold of him, and bulk him up to 205-210, then watch him bring the lumber to opposing ball carriers. He appears to have a ton of potential.

Definitely looks like a Rhoads kind of player. He has a motor that keeps on running and doesn't give up on the play.

He's not real fast, he doesn't seem to ever move at a high speed. He always seems to be half assing it. That doesn't mean he is though, as some people have deceptive speed and movement. Plus, all you have seen is the highlight reel, not game film. He might get burnt often in coverage, miss tackles often, be out of position often, you just don;t know because all you have seen is his best plays. He may also just be an under the radar recruit that Rivals has limited film/highlights.

Is it just me, or does our staff do a tremendous of scouting? Not in the sense that we are getting all these 4 and 5 star guys, but in the sense that we are getting these unknown kids to commit that end up blowing up on the recruiting scene.

When Syrie committed to us, NOBODY had ever heard of him. Now he's looking like a great prospect.

Nobody thought too much of Bibbs when he committed to us either. Now OU wants him. How about Aaron Wimberly? There are others too.

The kid looks like a bully out there. He may not be fast, but he always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. That itself can make a player. I'm sure he'll RS next year, but I think he'll be the safety of the future.

You can be a VERY good safety at the college level without having blazing speed. You have to have speed, but not corner speed. Anyone know his REAL 40 time? I think 5'11 190 you could grow into a linebacker. You can easily grow another inch or 2 in college and who said you have to be 6'+ to be a LB? James Harrison listed 6' 242lbs and one of the biggest hitters in the NFL. Other examples, Derrick Brooks - 6' 235lbs and Zack Thomas 5'11 242lbs.

Those are some of the best LB's in the last 20 years in the NFL. So to be a stud in college at 5'11 is not a stretch if he can put on some pounds.

He is definitely not afraid to stick his nose in there and bring it. Gotta remember, he's probably 17 or barely 18 in this video.

"Easily"? I also wouldn't make any assumptions about his age.

I'm glad that he looks good to you guys, but he's probably neither 5'11" nor 190 in the first place. However, I'll figure that at the very least, we have another guy who can do well on special teams, and I'll be happy with that, even if he never develops into anything else.

Of course, some people will say that he can't be any good, because he hasn't enough "STARZANDOFFERZ".

I don't care so much about measurables. I think you can read WAY too much into that.

What I like about his videos is that it clearly shows this kid is a hard nosed FOOTBALL player. He's not a sprinter and he's not a center in basketball, he's a football player, and this kid loves to hit.

At the 1:10 mark in the video when they show his first interception I was hoping the WR wouldn't catch the ball because I didn't want Syrie to kill him. The kid can hit.

Yes, you can read too much into "measurables". But while I'm not really worried about blazing speed, at a certain point however, "too slow" is "too slow", and players are just going to consistently be getting beaten to the corner, beaten deep, etc.

Not saying that applies to Syrie, just a general statement.

I will state again... YES you can EASILY grow an inch or 2 in college or between now and when he graduates from college. It happens all the time. Not saying he will, but it's not uncommon at all to not be done growing half way through your senior year of high school.
