Has anyone ever heard of Kalshi.com? A buddy just mentioned it to me, seems pretty interesting. They have an exchange of sorts, where you can predict (basically bet) on outcomes of future world events.

This is the first time I've heard of it/looked at it, but you can bet on a ton of stuff. Options range from outcomes on reality TV shows, what things football announcers will or will not say during a particular game, specific words politicians will or won't say during a given month, and all sorts of other things.

Sounds like a site preying on people with gambling addictions

I tend to think that Kalshi is the mesh point of all of the worst parts of sports betting and day-trading.

So, by all means, get out there and get yours, kings!

These sort of sites are so predatory, and just encourage toxic behavior. The whole trend of people throwing dildos at WNBA games is because places like Polymarket have odds of it happening in any given game, and even what color the phallus will be. So then degenerates place the bets and go to the games just to be the one throwing the rubber dong and cashing in on their bet.

Yeah a lot of the things seem ripe for corruption, they must have a max buy-in or something.

Yeah, I think that place kicked off with betting on elections. Seems like there would be hella fraud opportunities.

Pretty sure there is no book you are betting against so you are just betting against other users. Site just takes a cut and you can bet whatever amount off money you want

Yeah, looks like it. When so many people have taken one side, that position is 'sold out', essentially. & the odds/payouts changed based on the positions taken.

No it works by some other chump buying the other side of it. Your "bet" doesn't go through unless someone (or a group) takes the other side. Then Kalshi takes a cut every time a prediction bet it made.

It's a funny loophole that should be closed through legislation by expanding the sportsbooks/casinos to do "entertainment" prop bets OR closing it completely.

Stay very far away from that place. And I say this as a degenerate gambler

Doesn't sound all that different than taking a side on a sportsbet at -110 (or worse).

We just need to have a fresh start of civilization at this point. This iteration is cooked, let's try again.

Yes, but if it happens and you win, how will you collect?

Fresh Start means we all go. It's not just for kitty-litter.

It’s not, it’s cheaper actually.

Ignoring the fact that each “bet” is literally considered a security trade/stock trade. Yea Kalshi’s fee might be cheaper than a book’s juice but you’re trading unregulated securities on the most random stuff without any monitoring, protections, or anti-corruption/cheating in place.

Good luck. I’ll stick to losing my money to casinos who at least give me a free room when they bend me over.

I can certainly see how you could get screwed on some things. But I don't see much harm in putting $5 on Kirk Herbstreit to say "Facemask" during a game broadcast. Looks like a fun hobby where you could win some money or lose some money, or you could get yourself in trouble.. similar to betting.
