K-State to Host ISU at Arrowhead - Confirmed

Why would we want to give up all the revenue by giving away a home game? Doesnt make sense to me, I dont think its a good idea for a conference game.

Because ISU will make twice as much $$$ by playing two games in Arrowhead as they would for one home game and one road game.

That also doesn't include potential spike in merchandise sales for those people who, say, live in KC, but can't make the trip to Ames and hold season tickets.

Or...ahem...become Cyclone fans because the Clones kick *** in Arrowhead.

KU and MU were promised a million each but ended up making something like 1.5 mill after they got the game on ABC. Chiefs season ticket holders got first crack at tickets and KU included the game in their season ticket package while Mizzou did not. I would guess since the game doesn't have a rivalry draw or the alumni bases that KU and MU have it would make a little less money but there's no way we would be doing it if it wasn't financially beneficial.

The Chiefs have been trying to get as many college games as they can because they definitely make a boatload of money on the deal. You'd think they'd have it figured out by now but I was at the KU-MU game and the logistics of parking and getting into the stadium were a nightmare.

The college teams playing in the venue may be better than the sad Chiefs. It may sell more Chiefs season tickets.

Nebraska talk shows are bashing ISU for accepting to play KSU in KC. They can't believe that ISU would give up a home game and they question how many ISU fans will attend Arrowhead. I almost drove off the Road, I was so pissed. I believe that ISU fans will flood KC. No matter what the records are, ISU fans will attend this game. As an ISU alumni, I think this is a great move.

GO CYCLONES!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds great. dont want to see it as part of the home game season tix package or anything though.

At 1st i was hoping the date would get moved to later in the season, but on second thought it will still be early and if its nationally televised it might get decent ratings if its not going head to head with some steallar late season match-ups.

As long as its for the good of the atletic department, then im all for it.

GET READY TO PARTY

NEWS FLASH: The next two Kansas State/Iowa State football games will be played in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Re: GET READY TO PARTY

The consensus is that it will be good for both schools financially. KSU also needs a boost in recruiting in the KC area. More KSU alums live in metro KC than anywhere else. KSU has opened a new campus in Olathe so it is a plum tossed their way. The people in western Kansas hate it because it will add anther two hours of driving time each way.

The only thing that worries me is that we give up our home game first. So, if the deal falls apart between years 1 and 2, we get burned.

Guess I need to be more of an optimist.

I don't think the deal can "fall apart" in that it will be a contractual agreement between both schools and the Chiefs organization and the money will be guaranteed.

Yes, we are giving up a home game but it's definitely a win-win when you look at the fact that we will be guaranteed around $1million for the game we give up; then you add in receiving another $1 million for the second game when we normally receive $0 for playing a conference road game.

The 20010-2011 football season will be a huge windfall for the AD with seven home games, plus and extra $1 million for playing @ Arrowhead.

I love the idea of being able to easily see the Cyclones NINE times in one season (if you count Iowa City and KC)...

Nice... So essentially we give up a home game and get $3.6 million guaranteed in return :-)

1.8 Total, not each year... If this becomes an annual deal we will only have 5 Home Games in 2011. That means a pretty steep increase in per game season tickets as they will likely rise again in 2010 with the 7 Home games.

It's a 2-year deal, just like KU/MU was. Essentially, ISU/KSU is replacing that series.

2007 - KU/MU
2008 - KU/MU
2009 - ISU/KSU
2010 - ISU/KSU
2011 - two other teams?

Re: Its Official: 2009 & 2010 at Arrowhead

My only concern is, how will this affect the Ames economy? Game days are big business around here and by taking one away, we are talking some major $$$$

I can't wait! If my schedule allows for me to go, I'm all in! Tailgating should be awesome as well as the atmosphere!
