K-State to Host ISU at Arrowhead - Confirmed

This is a good point and next year is one where we'd have 6 other home games besides KSU.

I am okay with this as long as it is in years where it is in addition to six other home games, which is what the alumni and Ames merchants have been used to in the past anyway.

This would only be done by JP if it was a big net plus for football revenue in both years.

Also from that article

[The deal calls for both KU and MU to be guaranteed $1 million each year from the Chiefs, with the possibility for more if the game draws well. The Chiefs will profit as well, picking up the revenue of tickets, parking and concessions. Peterson said the schools could earn more money if ticket sales “get to a certain point.”
I'd like to hear the detail of this KSU/ISU agreement if this does happen. 40k seats sold at $25 =1 mill.

i'm curious to see how this works out. I am positive JP wouldn't do this w/o some financial benefit. you can season ticket this / season ticket that to death on this. Fact of the matter is that KSU is usually played in November when there is less fan support at the games due to weather.

Although a KC should be a tad warmer in Nov. than Ames. That could be a positive.

Very good point about the weather. One would expect the weather to be a little nicer down south. As long as ISU still plays 6 home games in Ames, I don't see how anyone can have a problem with this.

According to the article on LJWorld.com talking about KU/MU...

"Perkins said $1 million is about what Kansas makes for a home game, and getting the sum twice in two years essentially doubles the profits. Visiting teams in the Big 12 Conference don’t receive any revenue under normal circumstances."

LJWorld.com / Move to Arrowhead should pay off

Basically gets you an extra $1million in a year where you'd normally play the away game and receive nothing; plus more potentially from tickets sales and TV. So it's definitely a money maker for JP and ISU.

The atmosphere for the FSU ISU game at Arrowhead a few years back was probably the best of any ISU game I have ever been to. The thought that we could actually get two games there has me really excited.

I do agree that we should include the game in the season ticket package for the home team. And I also think this could help up the interest level for a game that we typically play later in the season to less than spectacular crowds. And if we can make more money off of it, then all the better.

Chicago bites...Big 10 country...no one likes that.

Back to KC...here's my prediction:

Will start in 2009 (next year). Will NOT be included in season ticket package. Season tickets will once again go up next season a small amount and then you will also need to buy the KC ticket to attend.

Will net another $1M or so for the AD.

I don't think there is any way they will include it in the season ticket package. If you have a combined 70,000 season ticket holders between ISU and KSU, there's a problem right there with the math because Arrowhead only holds 77,000. Plus, there are a lot of ISU season ticket holders who won't go to a game in KC. Some people just don't like to travel that far. At the same time, there are a lot of people like me who live out of state (and don't own season tickets) but would jump at the chance to watch a single game in KC.

K-State vs Iowa State

2008: Nov. 22 in Man
2009: Oct. 3 in Ames
2010: Oct. 9 in Man
2011: Oct. 1 in Ames

The dates are always subject to change. Since the MU/KU contract with Arrowhead is up after this year (at least as far as we know), my guess is that the game will be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving in both '09 and '10.

If you want to look at corollary benefits, that would give us a bye week before @ Kansas in '09 and before @ Oklahoma in '10.

I like this game saturday after thanksgiving. Fire this up Pollard. Looks like a win win for two schools with less than stellar exposure these days in the big12 and may start a beautiful rivalry.

So a home game on Labor Day weekend is no good, but moving a home game to a road game on Thanksgiving weekend is okay?

I don't think it will be included in season tix... We would still have six home games in 2009-10 and then seven in 2010-11. That's got to be a huge boost to the ADs budget when you can bank on the income for seven home games plus an extra $1 mil for what would've been an away game. Good trade off...

If this is a 2 year deal, I think it's a no brainer.

The FSU game was incredible. I don't remember it ever being any louder and I've been to all the big ones. The weather was great, the tailgating was great, and you could drink beer during the game.

BTW-I hate when people compare cities like KC, Minneapolis, and Chicago. I can have the same amount of fun in all 3.

All 3 have good bars=Check
All 3 have pro teams=Check
All 3 have good shopping for the ladies=Check
All 3 have great places to eat=Check
KC usually has an advantage in the weather department

It's not like you're comparing NYC to Lincoln, NE.
