I keep seeing posters wanting to bowl in the north end and increase seating. My question is can we fill all those seats? We are not filling all of them now so where are all these extra fans coming from. Let's see how we do the rest of this season because I have yet to see it full so far.
We have to build the fanbase, and I think ISU is in a very good position to that exactly that. EIU is going to be going through a coaching change in the near future, 2/5 years. They are also going to struggle with playing better conference teams more often.
ISU has a real chance to replace them as the team from the state going forward, not the old time fans, but the next generation of fans. Winning the conference got easier losing UT and OU, the expanded playoff gives us a opportunity to make the playoffs once every 4/5 years. Ames is close to Des Moines and its growing at a very fast pace. There is no reason ISU cannot fill the void that EIU losing more often. We just have to keep winning at a high rate, and the fans will be there.

And top 10 biggest at a stadium used primarily for CFB.

1. Jordan-Hare (Auburn) - 190' x 57'
2. Ross-Ade (Purdue) - 150' x 56'
3. Michigan Stadium - 152' x 55'
4. Oklahoma Memorial Stadium - 167' x 47'
5. Rice-Eccles (Utah) - 122' x 64'
6. Doak Campbell (FSU) - 120' x 56'
7. LaVell Edwards (BYU) - 131' x 48'
8. Razorback Stadium - 166' x 38'
9. LA Coliseum (USC) - 150' x 40'
10. Jack Trice Stadium - 157' x 36'

Not too shabby.
The board at Jordan-Hare is almost overwhelming. There's a point where there is too much.

Feels like Okie State's is huge too but that just might be because being mounted to the outside of a building makes it seem bigger.

Genuinely curious- how many older college stadiums have ponied up the money to replace bleacher seating with more pro style (sunup) seats? What’s the general cost of that and how realistic? I honestly don’t even know how many current ncaa stadiums have that throughout the majority of the stadium.

Capacity would obviously initially take a hit, but would improve game day experience. Then filling in the SEZ or finishing off the NEZ would get capacity back to our current level

spot on
i do wonder if more "premium gameday experience" seats are coming to JTS even if it comes at expense (?) of overall seating capacity

example:

Yep. As discussed earlier I think even something like converting a section to premium with individual seats is more likely than adding capacity at this point.

The new big 12 is more competitive but not necessarily more helpful for attendance

Huh, I don't know why that wasn't included in the list I looked at. It's 110" x 56', which would place it 9th, making ours 11th. Boo.

They had it full size in the bid specs for both north and south end zones. Guessing Pollard went the cheap route to save a little money. Very disappointing to hear this as our stadium lacks most stadiums in a lot of other areas and 2 large video boards could have enhanced the game day experience and compensated for some of the things we don't have. It's only slightly better resolution too so not sure why they are even bothering with it if money is that big of an issue (which is what I'm guessing Pollard will say). Sorry North end seaters and hillside folks!

You should email him and offer to cover the difference in cost instead of ******** about it on here.

At least our North-South Jumbotron disparity won't be as jarring as OU's:

157' is really wide, the scoreboard at Jerry World is 160' wide (that one is exactly twice as tall).

I'm curious if they will now use the full height for the main video section and have the time, score, and stats on the sides with ads outside of that.
I have seen that 160' number for Jerry World thrown about but in the same sources they say it spans from the 20 yard line to the 20 yard line which is 60 yards or 180 feet. I have seen other sources say 175 feet which is closer to the 20 to 20 claim. I think it is likely more accurate that it is 175 feet or at least close to that 60 yard number.

Looks like the 20-to-20 stat is about the entire structure, not the screens themselves. 160 ft would be about 23-yard line to 23-yard line, which looks right.

Leave the North Endzone alone. The hillsides are tradition now. Convert Jacobson into a party patio area. If you want to increase capacity, connect the south endzone upper deck and build more sky boxes above the west upper deck.

"Can we fill all the seats" was the naysayer mantra prior to bowling in the SEZ with the Sukup complex. We've had no problem filling those seats- with the exception of club members often opting to enjoy indoor climate control.

Why is that a weird take? If money is the reason the south video board was reduced in size, why spend the several million dollars to replace the board for a slightly better increase in resolution? And yes, I do think our stadium lacks a lot of amenities and big time feel of most other P5 stadiums and I don't even think that is debatable.

Because video boards have a limited life span. People in this very thread have been complaining about unevenness of picture quality and cells out. That will continue to get worse and the probability of a larger ingame failure continues to rise.

TBF the south board is like 10 years (maybe not quite that much) newer than the north one. But I like upgrading them at the same time to get them on the same cadence and never getting to how terrible the north one currently is

Is money the reason you aren’t donating more?

I couldn't find a date for the South one. When was it installed?

They just did that at Boone Pickens. They replaced a bunch of bleachers with individual fold up chairs this season. Although they are made of mesh (quite comfortable in the heat), and some.are already tearing
